Summary
The Controller will be responsible for managing an accounting staff of four and overseeing all month-end accounting functions, including bank reconciliations, payroll allocations, and financial statement preparation. (S)he will also assist in annual audit and tax preparation. Further, the Controller will assist with the preparation of the organization's annual and program budgets.
Responsibilities:
* Oversees the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
* Performs budget vs. actual financial statement analysis and prepares variance reports for senior managers.
* Analyzes on a continuous basis the overall accounting and reporting systems of the organization and identifies opportunities for improvement.
* Assists in the maintenance of the organization’s accounting policies and procedures.
* Oversees all general ledger and accounts payable activities.
* Ensures proper internal controls and maintenance of the organization’s financial records.
* Assists with the development of the organization's annual and program budgets.
* Assists with preparation for the organization’s annual audit and tax filing.
* Manages the accounting staff.
* Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Budget and Finance and/or VP of Finance and Administration.
Requirements:
* Demonstrated experience in financial statement preparation for an organization with an annual budget larger than $20 million.
* Experience with Microsoft Dynamics-SL (Solomon) or other high-end accounting software desired; proficiency with MS Excel required.
* Strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles.
* Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
* Ability to handle multiple priorities in an efficient manner.
* Strong organizational and writing skills.
Qualifications:
* Responsibility over financial reporting for a $20 million organization or larger required.
* Minimum of eight years of relevant, professional nonprofit accounting experience required.
* Experience managing foundation and other types of program-restricted grants preferred.
* Experience working with an organization with both a 501(c)(3) and a 501(c)(4) affiliate a significant plus.
* CPA required.
* Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
