I am an irreverent bastard who borders on arrogance. (It is not arrogance because I can generally back it up, and am well aware of what I do not know / cannot yet do.) My mind is constantly active (thinking, pondering, observing...); think Sherlock Holmes / House but without the drug problem of the former... yes, music is a tonic I often use to provide some of the necessary mental stimulation.

I moved here from Chicago to enjoy the great culture: the seminars, museums, theatres, and special events, as well as the access to history and what this town represents (mainly the good, though it is also good to be reminded / aware of our problems). For outdoor activities I enjoy biking, softball, and other sports (prefer to play rather than watch, but can certainly appreciate the talents of others), and stargazing. Recently I have been expanding to kayaking (despite not knowing how to swim still, though I am working on that), snowboarding, and other pursuits. I want to get back into skiing as well.
This year I had my introduction to ocean scuba diving (in Maui; will now get certified) and sailing (very interested in learning more now), jumped out of a plane for my birthday, and completed the ground school education towards a private pilot's license. I would like to also learn rock climbing, and then ice climbing. Wind surfing and surfboarding are interests as well.
I have decided that at least a moonroof is essential in a car, especially for those country drives.
I am also happy just enjoying good conversation or at home cuddling while watching a movie (ask me which ones I think are underrated).
For me travel is more about learning the culture and truly appreciating the history, ideally with the guidance of some local friends / acquaintances one has already made, than checking off a place on a checklist or being able to toss it out in conversation as some trophy. Top destinations of current interest would be Ireland, Iceland, and New Zealand.
I believe in paying for quality, and in fact seek it, if it is still a value. I will not pay for extravagance.
