PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Membership Development Manager will be responsible for managing key elements of our new member recruitment program including coordinating and conducting recruitment activities for the Democracy Alliance including regional meetings and recruitment trips, managing fundraising/marketing consultants, developing collateral materials, and coordinating with other Democracy Alliance activities to ensure that the organization can perform its mission. The Manager reports directly to the Senior Vice President for Partner Services and will work closely with the Partner Services staff to carry out all recruitment and engagement efforts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage and drive a strategy to recruit new members.
• Coordinate and support recruitment efforts of multiple principals, including Alliance members, senior management, Board members and external consultants.
• Conduct outreach out to prospective members, including sourcing introductions to prospects and cold calls.
• Work with the leaders of progressive movement partner organizations to source new prospective members.
• Plan and support cultivation events for potential members.
• Write letters, proposals and thank you notes to prospects, as well as pre-meeting briefings for principals.
• Oversee the consistent presentation and ongoing development of DA’s brand positioning. Author marketing materials and communications to be used in recruitment, both external (i.e., Prospectus, one page executive summary) and internal (i.e., talking points for Partners when speaking with prospects, Frequently Asked Questions, updated information for the recruitment portion of the web site).
• Manage principals’ call time and travel.
• Develop and execute on individual strategic plan for each prospective Partner.
• Manage prospect plans around semi-annual conferences.
• Write regular (bi-weekly and monthly) reports to SVP of Partner Services.
• Respond to Partner and prospect inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
• Assist the Senior Vice President, Partner Development with other activities as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES DESIRED:
• Demonstrated commitment to promoting progressive values and causes.
• Proven track record (minimum 3 years) in managing a major donor fundraising program, with particular emphasis on progressive politics, non-profits or foundations. Related Sales and Marketing experience will also be considered.
• Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently but collaboratively.
• Comfort and experience with conducting considerable business by phone, particularly cold calls.
• Ability to manage multiple projects successfully and work well on multiple deadlines.
• Intuitive understanding of social networking.
• Excellent customer-service skills, detail-oriented and dependable.
• Ability to “manage up.”
• Considerable experience managing multiple high-touch events simultaneously, both large and small.
• Experience coordinating communications and branding strategy with fundraising and programmatic efforts.
• Grace under pressure.
• Familiarity with MS Office suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
