Position Summary:

MSI is seeking a mid-level Communications and Training Specialist to support the USAID Development Outreach and Communications Training (DOC) Program, which is implemented by the Bureau for Legislative and Public Affairs. The individual will be responsible for day-to-day coordination of the DOC Program, in coordination with a small team. S/he will be responsible for detailed design and implementation of training conferences, as well as for training USAID’s network of communications specialists in strategy design and implementation, as well as innovative communications approaches in the developing world, including the use of social media. S/he will serve as a backstop for USAID’s worldwide communications network, in coordination with the LPA Bureau. The position is based in Washington, D.C., with occasional overseas travel to support a minimum of 3 DOC training conferences and other communications efforts as necessary.

Responsibilities:

· Provide strategic direction for DOC program goals and objectives;

· Work with the project team and USAID staff to develop training curriculum and implement trainings for USAID’s communications professionals;

· Serve as communications trainer, particularly in the area of innovative communications approaches using social media, video and more;

· Deliver guidance on USAID messaging, as requested by USAID;

· Develop communications materials for the DOC program;

· Provide daily guidance to and backstopping for information requests from USAID’s worldwide communications specialists;

· Liaise with other USAID Bureaus on communications activities; and

· Provide additional communications support to field missions as requested.

Qualifications:

· Degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field from an accredited university;

· This is a mid-level position; candidates should have 10+ years of experience in developing and designing communication strategies;

· Prior professional-level training and/or teaching experience;

· Experience using mixed media including television, radio and print as well as the web and social media preferred;

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;

· Ability to work in a small team environment;

· Ability to obtain a USAID security clearance;

· Applicants must be based in the DC area or willing to relocate; relocation package not offered for this position.
