Overview:
The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is one of the largest behavioral and social science research organizations in the world. AIR’s Federal Statistics Program collects and analyzes statistical data about public education in the United States and around the world. The information provided by our experts contributes to the development of high-quality statistics about education that inform discussion and debate at the decision-making levels of national, state and local governments.
We are currently seeking a Research Assistant to work on the Conditions for Learning (CFL) survey.
Responsibilities:
The AIR Conditions for Learning Survey asks students to rate school climate in four areas (school safety, academic rigor, student support, and social and emotional skills). This survey has been administered in several school districts around the U.S. and consists of high school, middle grade, and elementary grade versions. Current activities are focused on documenting the development of the CFL survey from its conceptualization through current administrations. This documentation includes summaries of expert meetings and focus groups, results of pilot tests and cognitive interviews, a questionnaire item history, and a comprehensive list of references used in developing the survey.
This individual will be responsible for supporting the team in various aspects of this survey documentation. This may include web searches of extant surveys and other literature, formatting documents in Microsoft Word and Excel, and maintaining a comprehensive list of references pertinent to the development of the CFL survey. There may also be an opportunity to work on other projects when needed.
Qualifications:
• B.A./B.S. in education, sociology, psychology, statistics, or other related fields.
• Attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Interest in research in education or general social science topics, survey research, and quantitative analysis.
