FOR LOVE OF CHILDREN: SITE COORDINATOR (Part-Time)
For Love of Children (FLOC) is a nonprofit organization focused on the mission to give young children and high-risk youth the opportunity to succeed through a continuum of educational services that will prepare them with the skills necessary to become life-long learners and contributing members of their communities.
FLOC’s Neighborhood Tutoring Program (NTP) provides one-on-one assistance in reading and math to students in grades 1 through 12. Tutoring is provided at the FLOC office and in area schools. The goal of the Neighborhood Tutoring Program is to help children read and perform arithmetic at or above grade level while giving them the skills needed to do homework independently. Special evaluation tools are used to assess each student’s progress and ensure 100% mastery before beginning the next step.
For Love of Children is currently seeking self-motivated, dynamic and flexible candidates who are passionate about the education of disadvantaged youth to join our Neighborhood Tutoring Program team for the remainder of the 2009-2010 school year. Candidates must be available for a total of 20 hours each week including Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00pm-6:00pm, and Thursdays from 4:00pm-8:30pm. This time will be spent supervising NTP sites; the remaining office hours will be scheduled in consultation with supervisors.
Under the supervision of full-time FLOC staff, site coordinators help to facilitate the Neighborhood Tutoring Program’s afterschool tutoring programs. The position will expose the candidate to a variety of programmatic elements, administrative responsibilities, project planning, and general operation experience. Site coordinators will be primarily responsible for providing support and technical assistance during program, reviewing lesson plans, communicating with tutors, students and parents, and data entry.
