Overview:
The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is a leading research organization specializing in school reform, teacher quality, special education, adult education, and other social policy issues. Our projects aim to improve the quality of education for all people by evaluating the effectiveness of education initiatives, conducting basic education research, and furnishing technical assistance at national, state, and local levels.
AIR maintains a professional-grade web services hosting center that is supported by a team of engineers monitoring the continuous operations of the network, including servers, security, and hosted applications. AIR Web Services maintains close to 500 projects covering the entire spectrum of Internet applications existing in the IT industry today. We are seeking a Systems / Network Administrator to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Predominantly set up, configure and support a Windows server (occasionally Linux servers) and Network Equipment on a TCP/IP network.
- Administer all systems, applications, security updates and carefully document network and server changes.
- Maintains the network backup system, ensuring accuracy and availability: tapes and storage devices
- Installs and upgrades PCs and laptops and support users. The candidate will be responsible ofl evaluating and install patches, resolving PC's and some servers' software and hardware related problems.
- Configure and troubleshoot network devices.
- Coordinate with manager and team on new tasks or existing issues.
Qualifications:
- BS or Associate degree in Computer Sciences is desired however we will consider equivalent experience.
- A+ Certified or equivalent experience is required.
- Network+ Certified or equivalent experience is required.
- MCP Certified or equivalent experience is required.
- Solid knowledge of hardware: Servers and PCs.
- Knowledge of Veritas Backup Exec or NetBackup and backup concepts is required.
- Windows XP and 2003 configuration, software installation and troubleshooting
- Network experience including TCP/IP and networks.
- Experience with Linux.
- This position requires excellent documentation skills, a very detail-oriented person and a strong team-oriented attitude.
