The Association for Psychological Science is a busy non-profit organization in downtown Washington, DC. APS internships offer dynamic opportunities to get involved, get creative, and get real experience! Interns work on specific projects, from idea conception to completion, while gaining valuable experience working in a busy office environment. Excellent writing skills, ability to work independently, professional maturity, and attention to detail are a must for all interns. We are currently hiring for the following positions:
Membership Intern
Assignments in the Membership Department include: Working on existing new member acquisition programs, developing new programs, building our network of prospective members, assisting with membership retention efforts, and collaborating with other departments on membership promotions.
Publications Intern
Assignments for interns in Publications include: writing for APS's monthly magazine, the Observer, and the APS Web site; fact-checking; researching articles and assisting with the production of the Observer. Ideal candidates for this position are seeking degrees in psychology, communications, or journalism, although other majors are welcome to apply.
Graphic Design and Website Intern
Assignments for Interns in Graphic Design include designing marketing materials for our annual convention; designing advertisements and artwork for our monthly magazine, the Observer; designing artwork for our Web site and updating the site. Interns must have experience with Adobe Creative Suite software and must be able to think of new and creative designs. Experience with ColdFusion is a plus. Ideal candidates for this position are seeking degrees in marketing, communications, graphic design, or computer science although other majors are welcome to apply.
Public Affairs/Science Writing Intern
Candidates must have a college degree, preferably in psychology (or a related scientific discipline), journalism, or communications; strong writing skills; and an interest in communicating behavioral science to the public. Activities include reading scientific publications, interviewing scientists, translating studies into jargon-free English.
