Building Futures GSA Project
The Building Futures GSA Project is a pre-apprenticeship training and placement program designed to help targeted groups of youth, women, ex-offenders and low-income populations enter registered construction apprenticeship programs and jobs in the construction and related industries in the metro Washington area. This program is a partnership between the Community Services Agency of the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO, Covenant House Washington, and Wider Opportunities for Women. It is supported by the area union apprenticeship programs and a variety of area contractors, and is funded by the General Services Administration. This is a grant-funded position and the term of the grant is one year.
The Case Management Specialist, working under the supervision of the Project & Training Director, will be responsible for working directly with clients on intake, assessment, referral and follow-up services. This position is responsible for ensuring that clients receive all services needed in a timely and professional manner. The Case Manager will be an employee of Covenant House Washington, DC.
Description of Major Duties
* Conduct intake, assessment, referral, follow-up and support activities for all clients
* Conduct program orientation for clients as directed
* Maintain both the automated case management reporting system and the paper file system
* Assist clients with development of Individual Education and Employment Plans for all clients, and provide support to clients to ensure successful completion of the
program
* Conduct on-site orientation trainings on an as-needed basis
* Work with the Job Development staff as needed on placement of clients in jobs with partnership employers
* Prepare required reports, in coordination with Program Director
* Design and implement case management program evaluation tools
* Connect clients with community resources
* Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of information and referral and case management techniques
Excellent oral and written communication skills – public speaking, training experience a plus
Excellent computer skills including use of a variety of word-processing, database, email and other computer packages
A Bachelor’s Degree and 2-4 years of related experience, OR 5 or more years of related experience
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of clients and staff
Counseling or social work experience a plus
Background in the labor movement and/or progressive organizations a plus.
