Latinos Still Largest, Fastest Growing Minority
Chicago Tribune
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-census1-2008may01,1,4727970.story
The United States grew steadily more diverse last year, with Latinos holding on to their rank as the nation's largest and fastest-growing minority group, a trend with far-reaching implications for American politics and immigration policies ... Overall, the nation's 102.5 million minorities accounted for 34 percent of the U.S. population, a new milepost on America's inexorable journey toward greater diversity and a harbinger of the growing political clout of nonwhites.
Who Gets Totally Obliterated, Iran Or The US?
Michael Nolan

... Mrs. Clinton is so desperate to play the tough guy card that she's had herself photographed throwing shots and beers back with the boys. Now, with her nuclear threat, she proves that she'll say anything, do anything in order to win what Ken Silverstein of Harper's calls "the frenzied bidding war to be the most 'pro-Israel.'" There's no indication, as yet, that she's ready to explain the monstrous consequences of a war with Iran to the American people ... Should the US risk existential defeat for Israel? Clinton adviser Ann Lewis seems to think so.
Chinese GDP Set to Overtake US by 2015
Fortune Magazine
http://money.cnn.com/2008/04/29/magazines/fortune/seven_years_learn_chinese.fortune/index.htm?postversion=2008043005
... A recent study by the economist Angus Maddison projects that China will become the world's dominant economic superpower much sooner than expected - not in 2050, but in 2015 ... China was the largest economy for centuries because everyone had the same type of economy - subsistence - and so the country with the most people would be economically biggest. Then the Industrial Revolution sent the West on a more prosperous path. Now the world is returning to a common economy, this time technology- and information-based, so once again population triumphs.
US Drawing Up Plans to Strike Iran Insurgency Camp
The Sunday Times (Britain)
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article3868063.ece
The US military is drawing up plans for a "surgical strike" against an insurgent training camp inside Iran if Republican Guards continue with attempts to destabilise Iraq, western intelligence sources said last week. One source said the Americans were growing increasingly angry at the involvement of the Guards' special-operations Quds force inside Iraq, training Shi'ite militias and smuggling weapons into the country.
US Close to Passing Law Banning `Genetic Discrimination'
The Jerusalem Post (Israel)
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1209626999989&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
US President George W. Bush is expected to soon sign into law legislation prohibiting health insurance companies from penalizing individuals based on genetic testing, a particular concern to Ashkenazi Jews, who sometimes carry certain deleterious DNA mutations ... Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, which had lobbied hard for the provision, welcomed the bill's passage ... Other Jewish groups have also backed the legislation.
An Interview With Prof. John Mearsheimer
Maclean's (Canada)

... All you have to do is look at the three presidential candidates and you see very clearly that they're falling all over themselves to maintain their strong allegiance to Israel and their commitment to keeping the special relationship intact. There's no reason to think that any of those three individuals will behave any differently than George Bush has behaved. No presidential candidate and no president is going to cross the [pro-Israel lobby in Washington], because it is, in effect, like grabbing the [electrified] third rail.
Promises and Betrayals: T. E. Lawrence's Prescient Writings
Robert Fisk -- New Statesman (Britain)
http://www.newstatesman.com/200805010042
No wonder Seven Pillars of Wisdom - indeed, all of T E Lawrence's work - now tops the reading list of almost every senior US officer in Iraq. Long after his legend was established in Arabia and Damascus and at the Versailles Treaty negotiations - almost 90 years after he realised that his promises to his Arab allies were to be broken by Britain's adherence to the Balfour Declaration - Lawrence's wisdom is now serving to guide (and no doubt misguide) the Americans, who have walked into the hell-disaster of Iraq with no idea of how to retreat.
How The Iraq War Will End
Mike Whitney
http://www.lewrockwell.com/whitney/whitney11.html
The US Military has won every battle it has fought in Iraq, but it has lost the war. Wars are won politically, not militarily. Bush doesn't understand this. He still clings to the belief that a political settlement can be imposed through force. But he is mistaken. The use of overwhelming force has only spread the violence and added to the political instability. Now Iraq is ungovernable ... The Bush administration has decided to pursue a strategy that is unprecedented in US history. It has decided to continue to prosecute a war that has already been lost morally, strategically, and militarily. But fighting a losing war has its costs.
Fake `Churchill' Documents Found in British Archives
Reuters
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080503/lf_nm_life/britain_forgery_dc_1
British police have discovered forged documents that were planted in the National Archives alleging top Nazi Heinrich Himmler was murdered on Winston Churchill's orders, the Public Record Office said on Saturday. The investigation identified 29 forgeries that had been slipped into 12 files after 2000 ... Forensic examination revealed that letterheads on documents purported to be written by Bernard Bracken, minister of information for wartime prime minister Churchill, in 1945 were made with a laser printer.
McCain Accused of Accepting Improper Donations From Rothschilds
The Guardian (Britain)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/apr/29/johnmccain.uselections2008
A US campaign watchdog has accused presumptive Republican president nominee John McCain of violating election laws by accepting campaign contributions from two prominent Londoners. At issue is a fundraising luncheon held in March at London's Spencer House, during McCain's swing through the United Kingdom. An invitation to the event lists Lord Rothschild and Nathaniel Rothschild as hosts, and indicates the event was made possible with their "kind permission".
