Our Homeland Security and Civilian Programs division is seeking a Software Engineer to work with our FEMA clients supporting the National Exercise Division (NED). This is a dynamic office with many stakeholders and a significant workload to deliver and improve the standards and oversight of the National level emergency management exercises across the country. The Software Engineer will provide technical modeling and simulation support to the National Exercise Simulation Center (NESC). The position will be located at a FEMA location in Washington, DC and will require periodic travel throughout the United States.
The position will:
- Support ongoing exercise activities of the National Exercise Simulation Center (NESC)
- Provide modeling and simulation support to ongoing exercise initiatives being support by the NESC using Extend, Arena and VenSim tools
- Oversee the development, delivery, and maintenance of modeling and simulation solutions for use in NESC supported exercises
- Develop solutions, as needed, for spatial modeling and/or object oriented programming to support ongoing NESC initiatives
- Provide program management guidance to the NED and NESC clients regarding the modeling and simulation capabilities needed for an exercise
- Identify opportunities and solutions for NESC process improvement
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:- Masters degree in Information Technology Management or related field with at least 8 years of demonstrated experience or
Bachelors degree in Information Technology Management or related field with at least 15 years of demonstrated experience
- Strong understanding and experience with modeling and simulation tools, such as Extend, Arena, VenSim and HLA
- Experience supporting homeland security and/or emergency management initiatives
- Experience developing in Java and/or C++ for spatial modeling and object oriented programming solutions
- Experience with Microsoft Tools: Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, Sharepoint
- An active government clearance
Additional preferred skills include:- Knowledge of FEMA
- Familiarity of agent based architectures and virtual world/immerse environment development
