Foundry United Methodist Church, a vital, progressive, growing downtown congregation committed to worship, caring and mission, is seeking a Director to launch music ministry for a new worship community on Sunday evenings. Range of music could likely stretch from contemporary Christian pop to Taize to classic hymns remixed to a touch of gospel.
The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate a history of (1) bringing talented musicians together to make great music, (2) developing musicians and setting them up to perform and lead effectively, (3) a spirit of team, joy and fun in performance, rehearsal and in planning sessions (4) artistic creativity, working with set themes and (5) thriving under very tight deadlines.
Vocal and instrumental skills will vary from one candidate to the next—though these can be very important components of a person’s potential leadership, we consider them secondary to the items numbered above. Experience with Media Shout and other computer software used in contemporary Christian worship services is also beneficial.
Located in Washington, DC, Foundry is a theologically progressive church with a strong commitment to social justice and the inclusion of diverse people.
Time frame: 15 hours a week* with major commitment on Sunday afternoons and evenings. Availability during the day for Wednesday staff meetings beneficial, but not absolutely required.
Interested applicants, e-mail resume and letter of interest to Julia Sanders at jsanders@foundryumc.org. Application deadline: November 23, 2009.
*If a person demonstrates the requisite gifts, this position can be enlarged slightly to 20 hours a week, with oversight of the visual media developed for the service.
