Volunteer at your national museum, the Smithsonian Institution. If you are at least 18 you may volunteer at a museum information desk located in one of the Smithsonian museums. Meet and talk to visitors from all over the world by answering their questions about Smithsonian museums, exhibitions, programs and activities.
Volunteers are needed who can commit at least to one year and who understand they will play a key role in enhancing the visitor experience. Fluency in English required; bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.
Museum information desks are staffed 7 days a week. Weekday assignments are 4 hours each week; weekend assignments are 4 hours biweekly. 2 hour evening assignments are available at the Smithsonian American Art Museum/National Portrait Gallery.
Classes begin September 2008. We anticipate the National Museum of American History, Kenneth E. Behring Center will reopen in fall 2008. Please see http://www.si.edu/volunteer/visinfo.htm for more information and to apply.
