Position: Editorial Web Producer, State of the USA
Reports To: Vice President, Content and Creative
Position Responsibilities
The nonprofit, non-partisan State of the USA seeks an experienced producer to help develop and update editorial features and data for a new Web site focused on key measures of national progress in health, the economy, education, housing, the environment and other areas of civic concern.
Working with State of the USAs Editor, the producer ensures the timely creation, production and updating of online editorial content, including articles, images, multimedia, section fronts and the sites home page. The producer also assists in the development of data-driven interactive charts, graphs and maps, working with SUSAs data experts.
All members of the State of the USA content team are expected to be self-starters; be able to think and act quickly; and thrive in a collaborative work environment.
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Update the sites editorial sections and home page on a regular basis.
Help ensure style and voice consistency of online editorial content.
Produce and publish relevant photos, graphics and other multimedia.
Maintain an editorial calendar covering various site sections
Copy edit articles and other content from staff and freelance writers
Participate in site quality assurance process.
Contribute to ongoing department strategic planning process.
Assist in managing feedback and other forms of user engagement
Maintain awareness of industry trends and competitive landscape
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, computer science or similar discipline.
Strong writing and editing skills.
Two to three years' experience in online publishing in related fields. Familiarity with science journalism a plus.
Working familiarity with common Web publishing language, tools and applications, including HTML, content management systems, data visualization, image editors, spreadsheets and social networking.
Ability and desire to master new software and technologies.
Good work ethic and self-starting attitude.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to meet deadlines.
