The perfect candidate would be a man or woman aged very roughly between 25 and 60 who is either experienced-with or open to group living.
Particularly a person who is reasonably well-educated and generally tolerant of people with a variety of backgrounds. And considers this to be a virtue.
This includes religious tolerance as well as tolerance of secularism (meaning no religion).
Our household has always had a kind of international feel to it. A kind of a model for "cultural getting along". As a group household, we do not celebrate religious holidays because we do not want to impose on anyone any kind of collective religious standard.
Among our current housemates, we have represented here people who "derive from" virtually all of the major (religious) cultures, but who (today) nonetheless believe in "cultural tolerance".
We have enjoyed as housemates over the years a number of people with a scientific or information technology background.
As a "cofounder" of our household and a person particularly interested in computer and web technology, I'm always interested to share this preoccupation with other housemates. The work will be following my own pre-existing plans, so I would be generally supervising. Although I would certainly be willing to share in the decision-making....

Then you would be able to comfortably occupy it as a regular group house tenant for as long as you like. Without any further requirement of handyman skills.

It's quite possible that the work on the room could be completed in less than 3 days.
I realize I'm asking for quite a lot with this arrangement. Therefore it's my intention to make sure that the offer is financially attractive to a good candidate.

The eventual basic rent for the (completed) room (where there is no compensation for services) will be $400 per month. This is a comprehensive rent which includes all utilities and extras = Cable TV and broadband Internet, etc.

My name is Rick Stewart. I am a retired math teacher and computer programmer. In an effort to obtain a long-term residence, on Monday, May 21, 2007, I signed a 10-year lease with the owner of this house, Carol Laredo, a loan officer and local merchant. She has said that she has no interest other than to continue renting the property for the indefinite future. So I expect this to be a stable VERY long-term living arrangement.
Our house is about 5 blocks away from the intersection of Randolph Road and Parklawn Drive in Rockville, Maryland --- also known as Loehmann's Plaza.
The nearest metro station is the White Flint Metro station.
The rental arrangement which is offered is month-to-month, but with nothing in writing unless you require it.
There is a security deposit of one month's rent which does not have to be paid immediately. But I would expect to receive it within a few months. As a group house manager, I am generally kind, honest and understanding, but I do expect that mutual agreements be honored. I have never failed to return a security deposit in full at the time of a housemate's departure.
The house is a 45-year-old, two-story brick house. It is very functional, with a good location and GREAT STREET PARKING. It will always be very easy to park your vehicle close to the house. The backyard is a nice feature of the property. It is large and nearly level.
The house is in nice condition, having recently been painted. The living room has a beautiful hardwood floor and the bedrooms also have hardwood floors in very good condition. These are about average-sized bedrooms.

The house has broadband FIBER-OPTIC DSL internet service. The house is in a region where Verizon is newly introducing it's fiber-optic service. Our fiber-optic DSL is roughly 5 TIMES FASTER than ordinary DSL.
The monthly rental charge is meant to be ALL INCLUSIVE. It includes your share of all of the following:
ALL UTILITIES: (gas, electric, telephone, water and sewage service), refuse and recyclables collection, cable TV, and fiber-optic broadband DSL Internet service.
What it all adds up to is that once you pay the comprehensive rent, it will be very easy to live here. Very little will be demanded of you. You can be as independent or as "participating" as you like. It's all up to you. We are very friendly group, but we also RESPECT that people have their own circumstances, agendas, schedules and objectives in their lives.

My name is Rex Vargas. I am an economist with the Embassy of Panama. In an effort to obtain a long-term residence reasonably convenient to where I work (in upper Northwest DC), on Monday, August 29, 2005, I signed a lease with the owner of this house, Jean-Claude Balcet, an economist with the World Bank. The lease is extendable and Jean-Claude has said that he has no interest other than to continue renting the property for the indefinite future. So I expect this to be a stable long-term living arrangement.
Our house is about 6 blocks away from the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and University Blvd. in Kensington, Maryland, about a mile southwest of the Wheaton Metro station.
The rental arrangement which is offered is month-to-month, but with nothing in writing unless you require it.
There is a security deposit of one month's rent which does not have to be paid immediately. But I would expect to receive it within a few months. As a group house manager, I am generally kind, honest and understanding, but I do expect that mutual agreements be honored. I have never failed to return a security deposit in full at the time of a housemate's departure.
The house is a 23-year-old two-story brick house, much newer than most other houses in its neighborhood, "Kensington Heights". It is very functional, with a good location and great street parking. It will always be very easy to park your vehicle close to the house. The backyard is a nice feature of the property. It is large and nearly level, featuring a grape arbor. There is also a ground-level deck for entertaining outside.
The house is in absolutely beautiful condition, having recently been painted throughout. The living room and dining room areas have beautiful hardwood floors and the remainder of the house, including the bedrooms, all have wall-to-wall carpeting in very good condition. These are about average-sized bedrooms.
All of the bedrooms have their own individual (Comcast) cable TV and (Verizon fiber-optic DSL) wireless broadband access. There is also a table with a desktop PC and broadband internet access set up in a remote corner of the living room. It is available for everyone's use.
The house has two levels.
The first floor has a VERY LARGE, attractive, living room,a nice-sized dining room and a LARGE modern table-space-kitchen. It also has a half bathroom, a laundry room with washer and dryer, a paneled den (now used as a bedroom), a half bath and an exit to an attached extra-long single car garage.
The second floor has five bedrooms with two full bathrooms. Four are normally occupied. The bedrooms all have LARGE modern closets.
You will have to SHARE a full bathroom with TWO OTHER PEOPLE, at the absolute minimum.
We realize that this is pretty unusual and, for certain people, might make living in this house undesirable. The only reassurance which I can give is that we will do everything possible to arrange bathroom assignments (who uses which of the two full bathrooms at which times) --- so that no two people will be needing to use the same bathroom at the same time of the day. Up until now, this arrangement has worked out fine.
The house has ducted central air conditioning and forced air heating.
There is some available storage space in the house. The house has an attic (with floorboards) available for storage, but it is not terribly convenient to get in and out of, as you have to go through a bedroom to get there.
