Now in its 5th year, the Sankofa Center for African Dance & Culture, an official 501(c)3 U.S.-based charitable organization is searching for artistic, teaching, or health-based volunteers for our on-going arts-based HIV/AIDS educational performance tour program in Ghana, West Africa.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

In Conjunction with UCLA Department of African Studies research, S.C.A.D.C. fuses traditional African dance, drama, & contemporary art genres with health information to educate Ghanaian youths & adults about HIV/AIDS. These very necessary performances are both entertaining & educational. Our program utilizes the vibrant energies of our volunteers & a local team to tour various villages & schools to help eradicate AIDS in Africa through art! We also conduct free rapid HIV testing in our village outreach to link those needing treatment with medical care. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Individuals with a background in the arts, dance, drama, theatre, music, public health, medicine, and related fields are encouraged to apply. A major aspect of our work is teaching & counseling sexual health topics to village youth so applicants possessing peer health education skills are needed. We will train you if you lack the background. Assistants for pre-post counseling and rapid HIV testing are also needed, we can train appropriate applicants on the procedures as well. Our programs vary but as a volunteer you will be actively involved in the artistic presentation of our HIV/AIDS health campaigns through your specified program.

Families go through a lot when their loved ones are serving our country through deployment. The 2008 International Coastal Clean-up is this September 20!

This is not your typical clean up event....

During this one day volunteers from all over the world take part in the largest waterway clean up in the world!

This year I am starting a new site in Dickerson, MD. This park is right along the Potomac River and C&O Canal and we need your help!

Montgomery County students will be awarded up to 8 service hours for their time and scouts can use the experience twords earning badges and belt loops.

The data that is collected during this effort is used by local, state, and international organizations to determine the critical causes of marine pollution and to develop a course of action to 'turn the tide' against the main pollutants.

This is going to sound crazy and ridiculous, however I am looking for about 10 people who have a RC plane. Prefer gas powered, and would love to have anyone who can have sometype of smoke blow out of the back of there plane. REASON: To begin a youth outdoor game, we thought it would be funny to have in formation fly by using RC planes right after the national anthem. Sounds crazy I know but we think it would be fun so if your interested please email us back. Event will be in about 2 months!

Threshold Services, along with Friendly's restaurant, will be hosting a Family Fun Night fundraiser event. We are in need of volunteers who are skilled in balloon artistry, caricature and face painting. We are also in need of two volunteers to act as mascots (costumes provided). The event will take place on Wednesday July 30th from 5pm-9pm. More info will be provided upon inquiry.

Looking for energetic, outgoing, responsible, committed and experienced ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) instructors. Must be available to work from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m on Saturdays, Monday to Thursday. Bachelor's degree and teaching experience preferred.

Qualifications
* Experience teaching and/or working with adults preferred
* Bachelor's Degree preferred
* Must be fluent in English
* Available to teach evenings and/or weekends

* Must be able to design and apply lesson plans using program's curriculum
* Assign and correct homework
* Must provide documentation of legal U.S. residency
* Must have enthusiasm, dedication, and a good work ethic
***Design a general class plan to cover all units required during the term and meet MSDE adult ESOL standards
