To help our growth, we are seeking a qualified full scope accountant for our new McLean, VA, headquarters office. We are looking for a hands-on, expert who can grow with the demands of the position, and who has excellent business skills and is able to build an effective accounting function in a growing small business. Job responsibilities include:
Duties & Functions:
• Prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations – includes profit and loss statements and monthly closing and cost accounting reports.
• Prepare and review budget, revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents.
• Provides management with timely reviews of organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
• Directs determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
• Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions.
• Establish, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
• Analyze revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control.
• Explain billing invoices and accounting policies to staff, vendors and clients.
• Resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Recommend, develop and maintain financial data bases, computer software systems and manual filing systems.
• Supervise the input and handling of financial data and reports for the company's automated financial systems.
• Interact with internal and external auditors in completing audits.
• Establish, or recommend to management, major corporate economic strategies, objectives, and policies for company.
• Recommend modifications to existing corporate programs.
• Advise management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions.
• Arrange for audits of company's accounts.
• Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Establish relations with banks and other financial institutions.
• Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate qualifications are as follows:
• Knowledge of accounting, finance, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
• A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field plus 7 years of accounting experience.
• Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule. Experience with public, private, and international services .
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent PC skills using MS Office and specialty software (QuickBooks & OpenAir experience, a plus).
• Works well in teams.
• Outgoing personality.
• Strong initiative, problem solving skills, and ethics.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Prior experience in small or start-up consulting companies a plus.
• Able to manage time to maximize production.
• Ability to secure a security clearance.
