Position Description
Lango, an innovative foreign-language program, is seeking teachers for its Spanish classes for young children, to be taught starting early January in Gainesville / Haymarket / Centreville areas, and for its French classes in Herndon / Reston areas. More Spring and Summer classes likely in other locations.
We are looking for individuals that are energetic, outgoing and eager to engage children through very fast-paced dynamic and interactive games, movement and music-based classes. A high level of comfort with dramatic play, puppets and physical activities is a must for this job. If you have not done this type of work, make sure will really enjoy it before you contact us! These are extremely fun classes but they require that you be flexible and open to new and creative approaches to teaching Spanish or French to young children!
Responsibilities:
• Teach dynamic 45 minute play-based immersion classes (no English is spoken) to one or more of our class levels:
o Parent & Tot for children ages 18 months-3 years old (with caregivers)
o Pre-school for children 3-5 years old
o Elementary for children 5-7 years old
• Use feedback gained in teaching these classes to further develop and improve the curriculum and materials.
Required Qualifications:
• Fluency in Spanish or French– native or fully fluent with no discernable American accent
• Experience teaching young children, preferably in a Spanish or French language context
• Incredibly energetic and dramatic; an outgoing personality, high level of enthusiasm, self-confidence and no self-consciousness are a must for this position!
• Some academic background in Spanish or French language and Spanish or French instruction, preferably to young children.
Other Beneficial Qualifications:
• Experience with children’s theatre, music or art
• Crafting and games experience
• Singing, dancing, or theatre acting experience:
Hours and Compensation:
Hours are quite flexible. Our classes for Tot & Parent are typically in the am and early afternoon and Pre-school and Elementary classes are in the late afternoon. We also offer classes on the weekends.
This is a part-time teaching opportunity. For the qualified Spanish teacher, there could be 5 or more classes (including 2 consecutive on Saturday mornings) in the areas listed above; for the qualified French teacher there are 2 classes per week, with more possible. For both positions there is good summer camp opportunities as well. Ideal for a student or anyone with a part-time or flexible schedule. Compensation ranges from $25 - $35/ per class DOE.
