This is your chance to find out more about the Jazz Workshop! In addition to all current students of the workshop, we are opening our doors to all those who are interested in learning about the workshop and the opportunities we offer.

Each workshop session will perform a few tunes from their repertoire. Following the performances, there will be a jazz jam session, so bring your instrument! Drums and Piano will be provided, as well as a bass amp and a small PA.

Hi,

I'm a professional sax player who teaches jazz improvisation one-on-one to individuals, or to small groups. We study and jam over chord progressions of standard tunes and bebop; I demonstrate the chord changes (and chord substitutions) slowly at the piano, then up to tempo, making it easier to hear how the chords move and resolve.

I provide written (notated) arpeggios, scales and riffs for you to play, and show you how to vary them to create original melodies. The many expressive possibilities of rhythm and phrasing are also covered.

I have gigged and recorded with jazz groups in DC since the 1980's and have taught a small jazz ensemble at the International School of Music in Bethesda.

My studio is located in south Leesburg, or I can come to your location in Loudoun County.

So my band is looking for a vocalist to join the band - currently we usually practice in Reston so we're lookin for someone that can make it there for practices in the evenings or on the weekends.

We usually try to jam out at least once if not twice a week

3 of us (the current vocalist, bass player, and I play guitar) have been together for about 8 months - the new drummer has been with us for a few weeks. We're in the process of adding a sax player and we're also waiting for a friend to move into the area to start playing keys. We have a great sound going, somewhere between the roots of reggae and rock.

We admire a lot of bands like Ballyhoo (http://ballyhoorocks.com) and Jah Roots (http://myspace.com/jahroots) and would like to progress in that direction while also keeping our influences open to other genres.

We'd also like for the vocalist to help contribute with the lyric writing process. We don't expect you to do everything, but hey, we write the music, so if you could help us out, we'll stick to what we do best.

1 singer/screamer (I'm the Yeller) , 1 Lead guitar player (we have a rythm guitarist already), a drummer and a bass player.

I've been trying to form a band for a LONG time but, finding people who have the same faith as us AND like alot of the same music is HARD. The mix we're going for and SOME of our influences are between - Bury Your Dead, Demon Hunter, xDeathstarx, Every New Day, Sleeping Giant, AFI, Avenged Sevenfold, War Of Ages/AsI Lay Dying/(old) Destroy the runner, Slipknot, Comeback Kid, Dogwood, Rise Against and for kicks...Opeth (A Christian Band with Christian and non-Christian influences alike!). We also have ballads cause some songs are just better off sung the whole way through. We Love melodies, but, we Love Break downs, Crowd Chants and Pinch Harmonics just as much so, we're really trying to find the balance. But, Over-all we just want to make incredible chill-down your-spine melodies along with alot of Brutal Yelling. We are VERY serious about Music...it's our life but, so is God. We typically sing about Faith and Life from a Christian prespective and beyond that BOLDLY reach out through our testimony. There are people who need a "Future and a HOPE" that's why we're here.

I Play Guitar, Drums, Bass and Piano (most proficient on drums) but, I'm currently the Yeller for this band because, I'm very diverse with my screams/yells/growls and have been working on them for years now.

As I said to begin with this is NO ORDINARY BAND! Diversity is welcomed to promote progress and keep from being labeled but, in the end it's all Rock.

We are a guitarist and a sax player who recently had a full band until the bassist moved out of state for a job and the drummer left in order to devote more time to this family and career.

The way we approach song writing is for someone to have an initial idea or riff and then jam out parts as a band. We write as many parts as we can, pick the ones we like most, and then arrange them into sections (intro/verse/chorus/etc). We are not looking for one-man bands. Don't expect us for one of us to write an entire song and "teach" it to the rest of the band to play over (except for the few we have already completed with the former members). We want improvisation and everyone's creativity collectively.

Our old bassist and drummer were great musicians (as you can tell from the clips) so we are looking for equally or higher calibered musicians. We are 22 and 24 but we don't mind if you are 10 years older or a few years younger. We currently do not have a practice space so if you have one, that's also a big plus. However, we do have mics, recording equipment, and pro gear. We were still trying out singers whenever we broke up but I (the guitarist) am taking lessons and think I can handle doing both. I'd like to rock out with a band about once a week, maybe twice a week. I don't want to do covers because it's hard to play someone else's songs and sound like someone else. I don't have a practice space. I am 32. I like to play my strat, and my Les Pauls, through a variety of great amplifiers including Orange, Budda, Ampeg, and Carvin - all tube. I like to play things that sound like Swamp Rock, and I like to play clean things that sound like Radiohead. I like to play things that sound like Warren Haynes/Gov't Mule, and Black Sabbath, and possibly The Sword. I also like things that sound like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I like music that sounds thick/viscous and rich, like groovy molasses. I hate electronic drums. I don't use a lot of effects, but I like my delay pedal, and my wah pedal, but the rest of the time, I really like the sound of the guitar going directly into the amplifier.

So you play bass and you think you have an awesome band but you just can't land that last piece of the puzzle to get out be playing. Either there aren't any singers that are good enough, the drummers you try out aren't familiar with 4/4 or double bass, maybe you guitarist's gear keeps breaking down. Whatever. Here's a chance to liberate youself from the dead end "We're gonna do it soon" crap.

We have all we need, except you, an experienced bass player with professional gear and hopefully can sing back-ups and harmonies.

We have shows booked and can have more real quick. We play mostly metal covers and have an hour and a half of music. You just have to learn them. They range from Motorhead to Buckcherry and STP. Don't worry if you have creative aspirations we write our own stuff too and are hoping to have an albums worth by the end of the year. We are all in our 30's and have been playing for at least 20 years. If this would be you first band it probably isn't the place for you. If have been around for a while in the area and are familiar with Kage and Grungy Mutt this is the opportunity to play with the drummer from Kage and the guitarist from the Mutt.

We're a small, but growing contemporary Christian Church. Laid back, fun but hard-working to lead our congregation in worship! We're in need of all musicians (bass guitar, lead guitar, drummer, keyboardist, male and female vocalists) for auditioned position with the existing worship band.

If I end up being your teacher you just saved yourself a lot of money finding me here! I'm currently work for two music schools and you would be paying about 30% more if we hooked up via a school.

I have no music degree (it's a different B.A.), no fancy web-site, can't do fretless or standup, can't do slap-pop, can't sight-read, now have 2 years (used to say "little experience") teaching it. And I don't want to do this full-time forever. Just a rocker and somewhat new music teacher who's played in numerous bands, studied books cover to cover, and had many a bass and guitar lesson.

I'm a high school teacher-to-be so teaching is my calling. And without getting into detail I can teach most all what the others will spell out in their ads. No big claims here like "learn to develop perfect pitch". We all know it comes down to your talent and effort facilitated by a good teacher's direction.

What I offer is my own pre-planned curriculum tailored for each student. My whole aim is to teach the tools that will get you into grooves and rhythms so you can have fun and be the best you can be. Your place (extra fee) or mine. Parents please check me out too. $15 intro (45 min) lesson, $23-half hour, $33-45 min, $42-hour, blocks of lessons cheaper. And feel free to compare me to others. References available upon request.

Note: My studio is in Fairfax City but I travel to MD and DC on certain days so don't rule yourselves out you non-VA people.
