Reston Interfaith is a nonprofit organization serving Northern Virginia that promotes self-sufficiency through support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other services. Founded in 1970 by area religious organizations, Reston Interfaith continues to depend on our community of supporters to provide services to over 13,000 men, women and children each year.
Program Associate supports Reston Interfaith's Neighborhood Resources Department , specifically the Emergency and Self-sufficiency Services Program (ESSP) and Herndon Outreach (HO). As assigned by the Assistant Director, the Program Associate will rotate his/her time between these programs and respond to extra staffing needs as determined by special events, absence of regular personnel, or unique circumstances.
In supporting these programs, the Program Associate will serve clients directly, individually, and as a group. S/he will advocate on their behalf with public and private community organizations to engender interest and participation for the benefit of the clients. S/he will provide administrative supports vital to the department’s obligations with donors and efforts to publicize program successes and opportunities. S/he will coordinate with donors, vendors, and volunteers and provide staff assistance to the Neighborhood Resources team during seasonal programming and events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
COMMUNITY OUTREACH and COORDINATION
Work closely with the staff of the ESSP and HO to establish trusting relationships with clients through formal and informal contact, and provide follow-up to identified needs.
Conduct intake assessments with walk-in clients, and provide information and referrals as appropriate to inform clients on a regular basis of services offered on-site and in the community.
Provide direct assistance to clients with services such as: translations, letter-writing, phone calls, Internet research, resolving simple tax questions, scholarship research and applications, job searches and applications, preparation of resume/cover letters, etc.
Work with the Neighborhood Resources staff to coordinate educational, social and recreational activities and events which support self-sufficiency, such as financial and budgeting workshop, ESL, nutrition classes, etc.
Work with ESSP program staff to schedule and coordinate seasonal client drives, ensuring communication with other Reston Interfaith programs and community partners.
Identify and establish volunteer opportunities in conjunction with program staff to support Neighborhood Resources programs.
Promote Reston Interfaith’s Neighborhood Resources department and its seasonal and programming activities and events, including representing Reston Interfaith at public forums.
Advocate for residents through partnerships with other public and private community organizations.
As requested, provide support for other Neighborhood Resources programs or agency-wide programs and activities.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
Document programming efforts, referrals, outcomes, needs, and overall progress and preparation reports as required by Fairfax County and other agencies.
Create and maintain program calendars, wish lists, organizational charts, program brochures and website content.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in human relations, social work, sociology, psychology, or a related field or have three years of experience in the field of human relations or community development.
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Knowledge of nonprofit organizations and experience working in a direct service environment.
Excellent time management skills, able to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain a high level of flexibility and follow-through.
Excellent organization and communication skills, and the ability to work with a diverse population.
Ability to work collaboratively with others and creatively and effectively as a member of a team;
Self-starter with ability to work well under pressure.
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
Must be responsible, dependable, and display the highest level of integrity.
