The Systems Engineer (SE) will be responsible for systems administration of Microsoft servers including upgrades, performance monitoring and security and technology assessments. Our SE will work with the Capacity Planning (CP) team to provide the implementation of network strategies, performance improvements, optimization and problem analysis. Additionally, the Systems Engineer will spend a significant amount of time on special projects including software tool research, evaluation and recommendation. Additional special projects may include a small amount of scripting or coding to automate various procedures etc.
Job Summary:
* Perform specific CP tool software evaluations and make recommendations
* Perform comparison studies of various CP software tools
* Perform application compatibility and interoperability testing
* Develop and maintain documentation required to support the findings of software tool evaluations
* Report any issues/ outages during test cycles to the Manager or designee
* Develop network documentation, including diagrams, Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions
** Note: This is a 4 month temp position that may lead to perm status.
Qualifications:
* 3 years of practical experience in an IT organization
* Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
* Experience with one or more (Java, Perl, and shell script) desired
* MCSE certification and other IT recognized certification desired
* Broad understanding of Windows operating systems; Unix a plus
* User account/creation and support
* Server backup and data/systems recovery/restores;
* Ability to utilize software and hardware diagnostic tools to identify, diagnose and repair complex problems and factors affecting systems performance
* Ability and flexibility to perform a number of engineering tasks at one time unsupervised
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Sound communication skills
* Strong team player attitude
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
Security Clearance:
**U.S. Citizens Only
Must be able to obtain a minimum of ADP II (Public Trust) clearance.
