Computer Repair Field & Bench Technician needed.
My business is a small, home-based company, that services and supports computers & networks for private individuals as well as small to medium-sized businesses.
While our computer business is important, computer work is only part of what I do. I also help put on workshops and events designed to foster social change, personal and emotional growth, effective communication, ecological awareness, intimate community, personal empowerment, and other humanistic values that can contribute to the healing of our society. It is important that someone who works here be comfortable with these values.
I need a highly competent technician to assist me with my clients. We work with Windows (all versions), PC hardware repair, Local Area Networks, DSL & Cable internet connections and gateway routers, anti-virus and anti-spyware recovery techniques, data recovery, and more. You would work closely with me in any areas that you are not already expert.
There is a significant amount of customer interaction and support, so people skills are needed. We do no advertising—our marketing plan is to keep our clients so happy that they can’t stop talking about us! :-)
I am less interested in formal credentials than I am in a person who is self-disciplined, curious, and creative, who learns quickly and keeps up with this ever-changing field. Being a self-taught computer hobbyist is a plus (but not essential). An entry level person could be acceptable if they were highly motivated.
This is a PART-TIME to FULL-TIME position, 25-40 hours per week. Work must be performed at our location and at customer sites. The exact times for work can be flexible, but will need to be scheduled between 8am - 6:30 pm, M-F. Compensation is $12-16/hr.
Requirements:
- Hobbyist background preferred.
- This position requires creativity and continual learning.
- Sharp mind, efficient work habits.
- Must be able to work well with minimal supervision.
- Skill and comfort with computers.
- Live in Virginia within 10-20 minutes of Ballston or 7 Corners.
- be completely fluent in English with excellent grammar.
- A driver's license and car-- a significant amount of work is done at the client sites.
- Non-smoker. This does not just mean not smoking in the building; I am highly allergic, so this means at a minimum not smoking at all on the days you work.
Some of the work may occasionally involve lifting boxes up to 40 lbs., so being in reasonable physical condition is important. In addition to the computer work, at times we will need help with other activities as well, including filing, organizing, errands, and various special projects.
The work environment is relaxed, so I need someone who creates their own structure, is highly organized, quick, and self-motivating.
This is a non-smoking environment, easy parking, 1 block to Wilson Blvd., next to a large park on the bike path.
Please send a resume, and a sentence or two explaining why you want this position. Be sure to include a phone number, and how early and late it is OK to call.
