The Virginia Defense Force (State Guard) is an un-armed, volunteer military
organization. Its missions include, helping the Va. National Guard deploy
and taking over the IN-STATE mission of the National Guard. With so
many National Guard soldiers being deployed overseas, our mission has never
been more critical.
Here is some other information about the VDF:
We are under the Governor of Virginia ONLY- we can not be federalized so our
mission is strictly in-state.
Our primary focus is preparing to help in the event of a natural disaster in
Virginia.
We are not paid for regular training but are paid if called to duty.
We accept volunteers from age 16-64.
You do not need prior military service, about 50% of the force is non-prior
military.
You do not need to go to boot camp. We will train you.
There is no set time commitment in the VDF but most people enjoy it so much
that they tend to stay.
We drill one Saturday a month and 2 weekends a year.
We have a lot of fun while serving our Country and the Commonwealth of
Virginia.
