I'm sorry you had a bad experience but I visited the shelter many, many times over the last month and a half prior to adopting and I have nothing but respect for the 3 or 4 individuals I dealt with. It was obvious in all that they did that they, and the many volunteers, genuinely care about the animals.

If anyone from the shelter reads this - THANK YOU to the staff and volunteers at the Prince George's County shelter - for your kindness and dedication. I think you do an outstanding job under trying circumstances.

How useless and cruel and damaging to the animals-The brand new PG shelter has jsut opened and already someone can't wait to say something nasty. what's the point? all you do is make it worse for the animals- the Animal Protection League left because they couldn't get the funds they wanted- the county couldn't afford the increase. at the last minute the county was forced to find staff( most who were already there were hired to continue) and really make the shelter first rate. being bitchy and saying mean things DOES NOT HELP. if you can't say seomthing nice and constructive then shut up!!!

Hi there, i have 2 cat tree's; one 3 feet tall and the other 5 feet tall. Both are in GREAT almost new condition. Ok so the littler one has a self carpeted ramp attached to it so the cats can run up it, which they LOVE to do. It also has a purple mouse hanging from the top. The top is a look out/bed and the the bottom is a circle tube for them to hide in. the ramp attaches to that part of the tree. The other cat tree is the bigger one which is the "blue" one, it's poles are rope covered for climbing and scratching, the top part is a look out with a toy hanging from it, under that there is a middle balcony with a trapped toy/cat nip toy-it is plastic bars with a fuzzy ball inside to "tease" the cats when they play, the top of that toy has a lid that can come off where you can stuff cat nip inside which i will include a container full with cat nip, under that there is a hide out/sleep area that is enclosed. Both cat tree's are VERY clean and very fun for cats. Make me a REASONABLE offer for one or both, but please; don't rip me off, i am selling them because i don't have room for both of them so im wanting to buy a new skinny tall one so it takes up less in my bedroom and im sure you all know how expensive the ones form the pet stores are, and that's where im getting mine form. Meet Baya! She is an adorable 5 month old pure bred pit bull puppy. Don't let her breed put you off - she is just about the sweetest, friendliest, most submissive dog you'll ever meet!

Bella has passed all our temperment tests. She gets along great with other dogs -- both on and off leash. And guess, what? She even ignores cats! She shares toys well and can take treats with other dogs. She LOVES bones and other food treats and will be a star in puppy class because she is so food motivated.

She has shown absolutely zero signs of aggression. She would be a great addition to a canine family -- or a fantastic single dog. She would also do very well at fenced in dog parks or doggie daycare.

Baya did grow up (to this point) in a family with small children. She loves toddlers and doesn't care if they pull her ears or tail. Unfortunately for the family, though, they lived in a place that did not allow pits, and they had to give her up. They were simply heartbroken about giving up this fantastic dog!

Miley came out of a neglectful situation. She came to the shelter severely underweight and nearly starved to death. A lot of food and a lot of love later she is at a healthy weight. Not at all phased by her terrible situation, Miley maintains her excellent disposition and is a joy to be around.

Like most shelter dogs, Miley may need a refresher on housetraining. As she is an owner release, though, she definelty has a leg up on training. She is likely crate trained.

He'd easily get comfortable in a home with another dog - or, if you promised to take him to the dog park and socialize him well - as an only dog. He'd love to play with some kids in the backyard but be just as happy to be mature and hang out with adults only.

Randall is ready for love, Shih Tsu (DC Metro)

Randall is the sweetest little guy. He's housetrained, calm and not a barker. His only challenge is being blind and that doesn't bother him a bit. He goes everywhere and loves to walk on a leash. He doesn't mind cats or other dogs, unless they jump on him, he usually just ignors them. He will go wherever you go. He's only 11 lbs, probably 12 now since he's been eating better at his foster's. He does take a thyroid pill, but downs it easily with a piece of cheese. The vet thinks he's about 4 or 5 years old.

He would be a great companion for someone who wants a dog to sit next to them and love them. He will be at Chateau Animaux, 524 8th St., SE on Capitol Hill tomorrow between 12 noon and 2 pm. Free panda hamster babies (Springfield, VA)

We had an unexpected litter of hamster babies, they are syrian (also known as teddy bear) panda hamsters. We had what we thought were two males together but turns out our Darwin is a female. There are 6 babies and they are about 5 weeks old. We just got a puppy recently, and with her and our other pets we don't have the time or money to keep all these babies so we are giving them away for free to loving homes. Not to end up in any reptile's belly. We would like to see the cage you have for whichever hamster you chose, and bring a box or other container with air holes to transport the baby home. We can bring them to you for a small fee, depending on where you live. If you can provide food, water and an outside shelter for them (ie: barn, open garage, etc.),they will provide appreciation, affection & control of your unwanted vermin. House cats fed regular from birth are not good mousers, these cats are. Since they're semi-feral (part wild) they form tight bonds and will take better to being relocated in small groups. There are plenty of sibling/color groups to choose from. I can coordinate having them fixed before you receive them.

Please consider sharing your property with a few of these animals. Most are really sweet with good dispositions and love getting affection from a trusted human. They seem to melt when you pet them or rub their cheek. A lot lay down in hopes of getting their tummy rubbed too. Yet they're totally content to be left on their own for most of the day. Many of them love coming in the house & would quite happily stay if it weren't for me kicking them out after a short visit.

If you would like to help these innocent & unfortunate creatures but cannot care for them yourself, a donation of food, milk &/or money would be greatly appreciated, much needed, and put to good and immediate use. I simply cannot afford to provide for all of these animals (2 lrg. 16 lb. bag$ p/wk), but I know most will be killed if I call the pound.

Rehoming baby ringneck doves (Fairfax, VA)

I have two 1 month old baby doves to rehome. They are siblings, probably brother and sister. One is a peach colored ringneck, the other is a natural ringneck, the color of a mourning dove. Both can be adopted into the same home or each can go to different homes.

Their new homes and owners should satisfy the following criteria:

Doves live 15 years or more. The new owner should be prepared to want the bird and care for it that long.
The new owner should have a coop or a very large cage (a parakeet cage is too small) and must be willing to let the bird out of the cage daily for exercise, to take baths, etc. Do not take the bird if you are unwilling to do this. Doves are largish birds, not little ornamental things for the home.
A baby dove is not a suitable pet for a very young child.
You will need to interact with it on a daily basis to keep it tame. They respond to kindness and love.
At 6 months they become sexually mature and birds of opposite sexes will breed, whether they are brother and sister or not.
It is not a good idea to allow brother and sister to breed, but if you want both birds there is a very simple way of preventing new births.

Doves rarely get sick and make wonderful pets for adults, adults who live alone, or adults who breed doves for fun.
These birds are tame, stand on your finger, let you touch them, eat seed out of a cup or shallow dish, and are used to being let out of a cage for exercise.
They are used to a very large parrot cage--a very roomy cage.
They are healthy and seem intelligent, and have calm, trusting dispositions.

Serious bird lover inquiries only. Best situation would be a new owner with a coop who raises doves or pigeons, but what counts most is commitment and kindness.

Though he has had to transition from his original home to the shelter to our foster home, Mico seems to maintain a sense of his place in the pack. He understands simple pleasures: one of his favorite things to do is curl up on a blanket on the floor. Mico is housetrained and knows how to sit.

Because we are fosters for the Humane Society we are responsible to their procedures. 4yr old male Pomeranian needs new home (Maryland)

Very sweet 3.5 yrs old nutered male pomeranian is looking for a new home with a large fenced yard to play in. He is 12 lbs red/gold color and up to date on shots through December 09. He is very affectionate and loving and good with other dogs, cats and kids. Not sure about toddlers though. He may not respond well to tail pulling and such. He currently lives with me in a small apartment and will be happier in a home with a yard and would love a doggy door too. He was raised on a farm and the previous owner could no longer care for him so I took him in. I am sad to have to give him up but realize where he would be happiest. He has no health or temperment issues and will do well in a home with or without another dog or cats. He loves getting and giving affection from his human owners and will cuddle with you and lay his head down on you. He loves his belly rubbed as well. He was nutered late therefore has developed the need to wander and mark so he is best kept in a secured environment ( not tied up to a short leash all day) and I keep him out of the kitchen when I'm not in it because he has a thing for marking on kitchen tile. He's gotten better since being nutered but I still keep him out with a baby gate. He is fine in the rest of the house. He loves long walks and car rides. He is a great car companion. He will bark when being left in the car but he will stop once he no longer sees you. He does the same thing when being left alone in the house but will stop barking once he can't see you. I have tested this. He is fine if you need to crate him but he doesn't need to be crated and i prefer him not to be crated all day. He is happier having access to outside and lounging under a tree. I will interview any prospective adopters and family and will need to see your home before making a decision. Only serious inquiries...

It is a completely preventable, treatable parasite that dogs really only get when they are not cared for properly, but extremely EXPENSIVE to cure. Because of this, Lucky Dog is one of the few organizations that will even rescue heartworm positive dogs. Many of these dogs turn out to be great pets!!! The most amazing and wonderful thing about dogs is that despite not getting a lot of attention over the past months, Daisy still loves people and wants to be with people all the time! She is very gentle with kids and friendly with other dogs. She seems to be pretty good with cats, and she's a little more mellow and timid than her sister. Daisy should go to home with another dog. She doesn't like being alone, and she looks to her canine siblings for reassurance. Ideally, it would be wonderful if we could find her a home where she could be adopted with her sister.

Meet the Chief!! Isn't he adorable? We think he is a beagle/wire haired terrier mix -- something that gives his coat that especially cute look! He is about 6 months old and 15 lbs.

Chief is a complete doll. He loves people and is happy to be cuddled! He also loves exploring and would be a great walking partner. He is pretty mellow -- epecially for a puppy -- so we also think he'd be a terrific family dog.

Chief is great with other dogs. He has not shown any indication of aggression at the shelter. He would be a great canine sibling for some lucky dog! But, he would also be happy getting all the doggy-attention.

Like most puppies, Chief will need to work on his housetraining. Chief will also need to go to obedience school so he can grow into a well-socialized dog!

Fireworks are one family celebration where the "fur-kids" don't belong. No matter how sure you are that you will be able to control them, please, please please leave the dogs at home. If you're staying home bbq'ing, send the dogs inside around twilight and watch out for "escapees" running for open doors. A little extra care tonight will save the heartache of a dog lost during the fireworks.

Friendly kitty looking for good home (Rixeyville)

We believe that "Kitty" was dumped by his owner near our farm. He took up residence in our barn. He became very sick twice because each time he had an abcess on his face. The vet said that they were the result of him and another cat fighting over territory. We realized that he was not able to defend himself because he was declawed. He has been completely rehabilitated and has regained his weight (he was very thin) and he is now looking for a new wonderful home. He is neutered and has had his rabies shot but he has not been tested for feline Leukemia-we did the best with the money that we had to pay for his vet bills. We believe that he is a Russian Blue. He will come with his bed, litter box, and "mouse". He has adjusted fine to indoor life. He would do well in a quieter home. I am asking a $30 rehoming fee to ensure that he goes to a good home. Please note that I may want to do a home inspection to see where he will be living. He also loves to be brushed. Unfortunately, we do not know how old he is. Because he is declawed, he must have an indoor home only.

I'm looking to adopt a Tibetan Mastiff or a mixed breed who is predominantly TM. I have had two such mixes and love the breed. I've searched for rescues and on Petfinder, but most of the rescues I've found are in California, and I do not want to ship a dog. So if you have or know of a Tibetan Mastiff looking for a new home, please let me know. I do not want to purchase from a breeder. I would like to adopt from rescue, a shelter, or from a private individual who can no longer care for their dog. I will consider adopting a special needs pup from a breeder, if there is a puppy in need who is otherwise considered to be "unadoptable."

I will provide personal and veterinary references, permit a home check, and sign a binding adoption agreement. Spayed/neutered preferred, or I will have it done at my vet and will agree to such in writing. I'm looking for a companion and family member, not a breeder or guard/yard dog. My dogs live in the house, sleep on the furniture, and are generally spoiled rotten.

Free to good, loving, approved home a 6 1/2 year old female Basset Hound. Her name is Baby Girl aka Huney. Due to our current financial situation we now find ourselves unable to continue to care for our furry baby. She has been spayed and is current on all her shots except for her Rabies shot which she is due for. Baby Girls only health issue is that she has cysts. Her last major trip to the Vet was to have multiple cysts removed and they all came back benign (non cancerous). That was in 2007. Since then she has developed more. She has a pack family (we have to let them all go) and does well with them. She is socialized with other dogs outside of her family. We have a 1 yo and she does great with her and she does great with my friends kids. She is the typical Basset. Loving and lazy. We are asking a small re-homing fee of $50 and would like to inspect her new home before she moves in. If you have other pets, the name of your Veterinarian would be appreciated. We want to be sure she goes to a good home, not resold to a laboratory or used as a bait dog. She deserves better. Sadly many would say that Jimmy is unadoptable. I am holding out hope that there is someone with space for this sweet boy to live out his final days. Jimmy is in foster care with our rescue group but unfortunately there are too many other animals and too large a house for Jimmy to safely have free access. He has his own room and its a nice one but Jimmy would do great in an apartment or house where he could better integrate with the family. Jimmy is perfect with his litterbox and very low key. He is shy so he mostly wants a comfy place to hang out and looks forrward to his meals. Jimmy eats a lower protein diet with wet food since his kidneys are not what they used to be.
When we rescued Jimmy he had been put in the trunk of a car and was terrified.

This handsome devil is Apollo! He is a beautiful 7 month old mix that we think might be flat-coated retriever/newfoundland... but, really, your guess is as good as ours! Apoloos is stuck in a high kill shelter and needs a foster or adopter ASAP!!!

Apollo is incredibly sweet. He loves kids and would be a great family dog. He would love going for long walks or runs -- or even hikes. He also loves to just hand out, getting lots of love an attention in front of the tv at night!

Apollo is great with other dogs. He would be a fine addition to an existing canine family. He would also really enjoy daily drips to a fenced in dog park -- or doggie daycare! And, the shelter tells us Apollo is great with cats as well!
