This is Ducks wife,Ramona,Here are the links to a couple of the places we did the "adoptions"
through and if you need anything, please let me know and we will do our best to help.My main thing
right now is the fact that I know there are thousands of soldiers and other military members that are
waiting for families to adopt them but so far the number of service members waiting is alot more then
people adopting so I am just trying to spread the word and am hopeful that I can get at least a few people
to jump in and help them out.Thank you so much for emailing as it is nice to know that there are people out
there that do care and I am sure the service members will be thankful also.

Can you imagine if you were unable to read this website, a street sign, directions on a bottle of medicine, or even a note from your child's teacher? Have you ever wanted to make a real difference in the life of an area adult? By volunteering with the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia, you can change the life of adults who want to develop the basic reading, writing, and English speaking skills necessary to be successful members of our communities.

Last year, the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia succeeded in educating over 1,800 adult students, who are striving to better their lives. We were only able to help this many people because we have so many hardworking, dedicated volunteers. Last year, over 1,200 volunteers donated over 31,000 hours of service, which averages to 25 volunteer hours per day!

You can help by volunteering to tutor an adult one-to-one, teach in an ESOL classroom, act as a class aide, work in our computer lab, help out in our office, or volunteer for our special events. You can make a difference in an individual's prospects, a family's opportunities, and a community's future.

To find out more, come to our next volunteer orientation on Monday, June 30, 2008 at 6:30-8 pm in Falls Church. Please sign up by contacting Belle at volunteers@lcnv.org or 703-237-0866 x111. Goa was the former Portuguese colony in India, one of India's most cherished and prominent places for travelers since many years for its remarkable palm-fringed beaches; a travelers paradise. But Goa is also known to be a high-risk zone for HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases due to a high rate of sexual tourism. To tackle the problem of the rapid spread of these diseases, awareness program has been conducted all throughout the state for several years with a local group of specialists. This year again several volunteer workcamps will be conducted.
In the first week of the camp, the volunteers will be given a training on the topics HIV/AIDS, STDs, and counseling. Using the information that was given in the training, they will visit local schools and conduct lectures. Furthermore to reach out to the general public, the group of volunteers will create a Street Theatre Play that will be performed in public places. In 2005 the international volunteers, with their own creativity, efforts and motivation created a play that won the first prize in the state theatre competition.

First Book- Northern Virginia is one of more than 270 First Book volunteer-led Advisory Boards whose mission is to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. We're looking to provide even more this year!
Together, the Advisory Board selects programs to receive book grants, raises funds to support the purchase of new books for the children in these programs, recruits additional members from the community, and participates in national cause-based marketing events and campaigns.
If you are interested in being an active member of this organization, please email us.

Hello,

I've been selected (along with 14 other volunteers) to help with a Service Project in Peru this summer. Immediately following my two week mission in Peru, it has become apparent to me (through certain unignorable "nagging" coincidences) that my mission is then to spend a couple months in Guatemala, helping physically with a Peace Center/School (painting, window installation, repairing), and also helping spiritually by teaching kids in a classroom setting at the center. My life situation is very delicate at this time, as I must strive to maintain a quality of spiritual clarity and awareness that allows me to truly change the course of humanity with everything I do. I am incredibly hard-working and diligent in everything that I do, but, because of the fragility of the balance of mind and body which is vital for me to be able to bring beauty into every moment, there are many matters which fill my days up that require my constant attention. This being the case, I find that the time I am able to dedicate to a "real world" job (for lack of a better way to distinguish this from the course of my life's work which, I say, is just as much a job as it does indeed require the utmost level of commitment and work) is limited, and the date of my mission (July 5-20 for Peru) is near enough for me now to be posting this in the hopes the right person will read it. I'm not sure how I would even formulate an expectation for something like this and, therefore, have absolutely no expectations! If what I just typed (which is no less than a representation of my heart) resonates with something inside of you in a way that is unmistakable and therefore unignorable, there may be a very certain way that we could help each other out as human beings in the interest of brotherhood and pure emotional connection. Please email or call me if you'd be interested in pursuing this thread further!

They deserve a chance in life against all the odds.
We need your help.

I am a volunteer for a well known and respected rescue group.
Among other intakes, this rescue group takes cats from a local shelter whose conditions are bad. The cats at the shelter, especially newborns and young kittens often get sick and die. The shelter performs euthanasia.
Owner returns have just 1 safe day.Strays have appr. 5 safe days.

The rescue group 'rescue's these cats from the shelter, often from the death row. Then they are placed in foster homes. After being fully vetted, they are put out for adoption.

We do not have enough foster homes to accomodate the number of kittens/cats that need our help. It is just the start of kitten season and we already have a waiting list.

We are looking for FOSTER HOMES to provide temporary shelter for these unfortunate cats.

All of them are adoptable animals.

We have 2 pregnant cats, 1 new mon + babies, any many more owner returns and kittens at the shelter waiting for a twist of fate before the unthinkable happens.

Motivated volunteers from different countries will organize variety of activities for the children and the youngsters in order to optimize their free time during the summer holidays. This will include sports events, gardening, group games, thematic workshops, walks in the city of Plovdiv, visits to different sights and events, etc. Some maintenance and domestic works will be done together with the residents.

The workcamp project will take place in Social home for high-school students in Plovdiv. The Home is situated on the bank of Maritza river, in the second largest Bulgarian town. This is one of the biggest social establishments in the country providing home and care for more than 140 young people at the age of 5 to 16 years. The socially disadvantaged background of most of the children is considered to be the reason for many problems, which they face in school, in their contacts with other people, in their everyday life. The interaction with other young people from different countries, while working, playing, learning together in the frame of an international volunteer project is essential for their socialization and adaptation. If you want to learn more about the Orphanage and its kids, please visit: www.cadip.org/orphanage

Plovdiv is the second largest Bulgarian city, crossroad of different cultures with more than 6000 years history. Ruins from Thracian and Roman times can be seen along with the architectural reserve “Old Plovdiv” and many other sites of historical importance. Volunteers can explore the city and attend the number of cultural and sports events taking place there every summer.

Dates of the project:
July 6 - July 19, 2008
July 20 - August 2, 2008
August 3 - August 16, 2008
August 17 - August 30, 2008

Depending on the availability of free places, a volunteer may take part in more than one project. Keep in mind that a short-term volunteer workcamp is a very dynamic and emotionally intense experience and requires higher personal commitment, somehow comparable to that in middle or long-term volunteering.

Volunteers are needed at Teaching Hope, a small non-profit dedicated to helping the abandoned children of Colombia, South America. We are looking for local volunteers who are goal-oriented, creative and enthusiastic to help us plan fundraising events in the DC Area. Previous experience is not required.

For millions of abandoned teens, the only thing scarier than the past is the thought of the future. After aging out of orphanages, they face a life of poverty, exploitation, crime, and violence on the streets.

Their lives and stories compelled the creation of Teaching HOPE, an organization founded to empower orphaned teens. Our goal is to help these children become responsible adults and break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.

Teaching HOPE’s pilot project is in Colombia where millions of children and families have been displaced by violence and marginalized by poverty.
Our volunteers are a great asset to the community as well as the operation of our programs. We could not provide services to survivors of sexual assault if it weren’t for the dedication and commitment of our volunteers. Volunteers help with the 24-hour hotline, hospital advocacy, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and fundraising activities.

The next volunteer training for hotline counselors and hospital advocates will begin May 20th, 2008. We will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00-9:00 PM for eight weeks. In addition to the Tuesday and Thursday sessions, there are 2 Saturday trainings. If you are unable to make the Summer training, we have another training session in the Fall of 2008.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please visit our website http://www.dcrcc.org for an application. You may return the application, along with a copy of your resume, by mail, fax (202-387-3812) or email at volunteer@dcrcc.org. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 34125, Washington, DC 20043. Upon receipt of your application, you will be contacted prior to the training to schedule an interview. If you have any questions please contact Stephanie Mock or Alicia Gill at (202) 232-0789.

“At Evercare Hospice and Palliative Care, we provide compassionate care for those facing end-of-life issues and personal support to their families. Because patients prefer the comfort of familiar surroundings, we provide care wherever patients reside, whether in a private home, a nursing home, an assisted living facility or other in-patient setting.”

Volunteer Opportunities

1.	Patient /Family Support: Providing socialization and companionship, 11th hour support, pet visitation, massage therapy, running errands, being a volunteer chaplain and conducting formalized life reviews are a few examples of ways to “be” with patients. Although not required, we are seeking a twelve month commitment. (Ages 16 to adult)
2.	Bereavement volunteer: Under the direction of our Volunteer Coordinator, volunteers make phone contacts with the bereaved to assess coping skills to assess various stages in the grief cycle, helping with memorial gatherings or helping co-facilitate support groups. (Ages 18 to adult)
3.	Office work: We are always in need of help with creating admission packets for our patients/families and physicians, filing, marketing packets for our targeted physicians and potential providers, photocopying, mail processing and other office work. We also need volunteers who can answer the phones from time to time. (Ages 15-Adult)
4.	Crafts/Woodworking: Volunteers make small memory boxes, quilts, pillows or knitted scarves for patients and their families to create a lasting commemoration of the life of the patient. Volunteers also make crafts for special occasions at nursing homes and for other special events. (Any ages)
The first two volunteer jobs require a sixteen hour comprehensive training program. The other jobs require a brief basic orientation course. Both training classes are provided free of charge and are offered several times a year (both in our office and virtually) with additional in-service and educational opportunities available to expand your strengths and skills.

For more information on hospice and an application, please contact the Volunteer Services office at 703-788-1768 or by email at jen_jackson@uhc.com.

iraq vet and family need your help (tacoma, wa)

My name is Marc Barton and I am a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. I have not
filed for bankruptcy yet and hopefully with your help I can avoid that.
I have also contacted the credit counseling services, I will continue to
try but I am getting the same response from all of them. I can't even
afford their monthly payments to pay it off, and I have been told that I
can't even afford to declare bankruptcy. If you look at my monthly
expenses, I barely scrape by month to month and some months are a little
harder. It seems that whenever I get an extra dollar, something comes
up.
I guess I should start at the beginning. I found out in August of 1997
that my son was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. I wanted the best for
him and found out that enlisting in the Army would provide him with full
medical coverage. Within a week I was off to boot camp at Fort Knox, KY.

Currently I am assigned to the 3RD Brigade, 2ND Infantry Division at
Fort Lewis, Washington. My wife, Sarah, and I have 2 sons and a daughter
on the way in June.
I have been deployed to Iraq twice in support of Operation Iraqi
Freedom. During my first deployment, I came home on leave and found a
beautiful house for my family. I purchased the house and even though it
needed many repairs and updates, I was determined to turn it into our
dream home. Shortly after signing all the paperwork, I returned to Iraq
to complete my tour of duty.
Everything was going fine until my last deployment that ended in
September of 2007. I found out that my mortgage was part of the
sub-prime crisis that has hit the market. My intent was to redeploy in
July, refinance my house for a fixed interest rate, and move on. However
my tour was extended 3 months and I couldn't make it back in time before
the ARM adjusted.
Up to July of 2007, I had kept all my credit card payments current and
was on my way to having a good credit score to refinance with.
In July my APR was 6.5% and in August it was 9.5% and now it has reached
10.85%. My payments went from $850.00 a month to $1390.00 a month. On
top of that I have a second mortgage that I took out to purchase
building materials and other items to bring the house together. I
believe I have done a great job on it. I purchased it at $152,000 and it
now appraises at $300,000.
When my mortgage payments started rising, I couldn't keep up with my
other debt such as credit cards, utilities and so forth. I had to fall
back on my credit cards to keep up with some of the necessities and then
I put all other debts to the side and focused on my mortgage payments
because I didn't want to lose my house. I am now facing losing it though
because I cannot get a lender to even look at me for a refinance.
Because of my delinquency on my credit card debt, my credit score has
plummeted and I can't get it back up to a point where a lender will
assist me.
If I could pay off my credit card debt, and continue with my current
payments on my house for 5-6 months, my broker assures me that my credit
score will go up and I will qualify for a lower interest rate. Or if I
could eliminate my second mortgage, it would free that money up to send
to the creditors. I am willing to seek any avenue it takes. Every month I am barely scraping by and can't
save up any money to make payments on my own.
I have tried for the past 8 months to fix this and I have had a few
organizations donate to me so that I can keep my utilities on, but it's
too little, too late. I don't know what else to do. My wife and kids love
our house and after all the sweat equity I have put into it, I would
hate to have it foreclosed. I just remodeled the upstairs so that my
toddler can move up to his own room and his nursery could be used for
the daughter that is due in 2 months.
If there is anything you can do, can you please help me insure that my
family can stay in our dream home?
