It is very important that you have a good sense of humor and be good natured, not cranky. Very important! Because this is intended to be a funny site and the creators are going to be joking around all the time. If you don't have a good sense of humor we're not going to get along very well.

This new site will work a lot like funnyordie.com. Except that the humor will sometimes have some remote connection to some public interest issue.

The site will consist almost exclusively of little thumbnails of YouTube videos, which take you to YouTube when you click on them. (Yes, I know this is easy.) Text longer than a sentence or so will be banished to some boring site somewhere.

We need an efficient way for people to send us their own links to YouTube videos, to have a member of our team review them to make sure they are appropriate for the site, and then to post them in a user-generated content area.

We will want to have the same rise-to-the-top rating system for our own videos.

Position: Editorial Web Producer, State of the USA
Reports To: Vice President, Content and Creative

Position Responsibilities

The nonprofit, non-partisan State of the USA seeks an experienced producer to help develop and update editorial features and data for a new Web site focused on key measures of national progress in health, the economy, education, housing, the environment and other areas of civic concern.

Working with State of the USA�s Editor, the producer ensures the timely creation, production and updating of online editorial content, including articles, images, multimedia, section fronts and the site�s home page. The producer also assists in the development of data-driven interactive charts, graphs and maps, working with SUSA�s data experts.

All members of the State of the USA content team are expected to be self-starters; be able to think and act quickly; and thrive in a collaborative work environment.

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

� Update the site�s editorial sections and home page on a regular basis.
� Help ensure style and voice consistency of online editorial content.
� Produce and publish relevant photos, graphics and other multimedia.
� Maintain an editorial calendar covering various site sections
� Copy edit articles and other content from staff and freelance writers
� Participate in site quality assurance process.
� Contribute to ongoing department strategic planning process.
� Assist in managing feedback and other forms of user engagement
� Maintain awareness of industry trends and competitive landscape

Education and Experience:

� Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, computer science or similar discipline.
� Strong writing and editing skills.
� Two to three years' experience in online publishing in related fields. Familiarity with science journalism a plus.
� Working familiarity with common Web publishing language, tools and applications, including HTML, content management systems, data visualization, image editors, spreadsheets and social networking.
� Ability and desire to master new software and technologies.
� Good work ethic and self-starting attitude.
� Strong communication and collaboration skills.
� Ability to meet deadlines.

EDUCATION:

EXPERIENCE:
Two years experience in web development, design, or related fields. Experience in writing and editing logical and detailed reports. Research: Research trends and develop new ideas for ContentOne to stay ahead in information delivery. Remain current on interface development principles, practices and technologies. This may mean learning new programming languages or technologies.

Prototyping and Unit and System Testing: Work closely with the product and development teams and other internal stakeholders to build product prototypes.

Requirements

BS Computer Science or similar field of study preferred.
Minimum 3 years experience Web development utilizing open source technologies (eg: Ruby on Rails, Drupal), client and server side programming.
Strong understanding of object oriented programming and design.
Proficiency in developing standards-compliant, cross browser, high performance web applications using modern web development techniques.
Solid understanding and experience of relational database models (RDBMS).
Experience with Content Management Systems.
Understanding of Web Journalism is a big advantage.
Understanding of and experience with current Web design practices, techniques and technologies.
Technical skills include: Windows/Apple OS, proficiency with OOP techniques, Drupal, Ruby on Rails or similar, MySQL, SQL Server, Access, Coldfusion, PHP, XHMTL, Dynamic HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, VBScript, Ajax and Flash desired.
Web design capabilities with Photoshop, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Flash, ActionScript or similar desired.
Familiar with Adobe Air's developer tool kit and have an understanding of Gadget/Widget web design.
Ability to connect seamlessly to Omniture SiteCatalyst analytics systems and Helios/Ad Tech advertising inventory management system.
