Real Estate Web Design/Programming (Contract/ Start-Up Opportunity) (Arlington, VA)

Established Real Estate Company with offices in Arlington and Ashburn, VA is looking to partner with an ambitious person to take our existing Real Estate IDX search to the next level. While we are happy with the design of our sites, the service that we receive from the company who currently hosts the IDX portion of our sites leaves much to be desired. We are looking to recreate (and enhance) our existing design and move the sites to our own server (we designed the sites ourselves).

Moving forward, we would then like to take our finished design and market our product to Real Estate companies in other markets. In our opinion there is enormous growth potential for Real Estate IDX search engines, which allow users to search local MLS systems for properties (see Realtor.com, Trulia.com, etc). We feel that our niche in the market will be to localize these search engines and offer a state-of-the-art back-end system that will allow our clients to better track the leads that are generated from their sites.

Ideal candidate will be located in or near to Metro DC area and familiar with web design and essentially- making things work! I prefer to be able to meet face-to-face from time to time to discuss development issues. Also, candidate must have a focus on future earning potential of the marketing of our product as opposed to immediate earnings. We have a budget of roughly $15,000 for this project.

If I have peaked your interest, please contact me and I will send you links to our current sites. When you see these, I am sure that you will see that we are on to something. I understand how to capture Real Estate business on the web, now I need to find that person out there that knows how to make my vision function on the web!

Do stuff that matters. TM

Freelancers and outsourcing companies need not respond.

Yakabod, a web software and services company, is located in a beautifully restored facility in Frederick, Maryland's historic district. We’ve experienced steady growth since starting in 2001. We’ve set our hearts on building a great company. Now we’re looking for an experienced and skilled Web Application Designer to work on location at our Frederick office.

Your role will include working as part of our Design Team in our Application Development Group with a mission to make our amazing technology look as good as it works. We're still small, so you'll do a bit of everything from optimizing CSS to implementing design comps, designing a button or two, and writing help instructions when integrating new features.

You must have experience in building dynamic enterprise web-based applications in addition to having a passion for creating the cleanest, most simple user interface designs involving standards-based methods. Three to five years experience in implementing a design vision from image files to a working application in a fast, and-we-mean-fast, paced development environment is preferred. Print experience is a plus. A thing for fonts and icons is a must.

We expect you to have a strong foundation, knowledge and proficiency in:
•CSS and XHTML
•All the latest cross-browser compatibility tricks
•Graphic design concepts
•Typography
•Color theory.

As a designer candidate you must be able to:
•Design and integrate great UI in application development environments
•Demonstrate skills in all the obvious related graphic design software packages
•Demonstrate knowledge regarding User-Centered Design, Smarty, PHP, JavaScript, HTML, XML, AJAX, CSS, and unfortunately IE browser issues
•Submit a few of your work samples with an explanation of why you think they are your best
•Provide and be prepared for a full portfolio review upon request
•Answer this question: “What are your 3 favorite fonts, and why?”
•Forward a link for our review to your online portfolio and/or submit design samples with your resume.

We’ll also expect you to reliably get things done — you’re a self-motivated, entrepreneurial, problem solver who loves to build software that "works the way it ought to". You thrive as part of a team that’s undertaking a bold adventure together. Most important, you resonate with our core values and culture. Experience in an early stage tech firm is desirable, but not required. An active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is desirable, but not required. If you don’t have a clearance, you must be willing to be submitted for clearance processing that does include a polygraph.
Interested? Send your resume and design samples to careers@yakabod.com
