Senior Accounting Associate (Temporary ASAP-End of January) (Washington, DC)

compensation: BOE $30-$35/h
employment type: part-time

Our client, a non-profit focused on international women's rights and empowerment, has an immediate need for a Senior Accounting Associate to join the team on a Part-Time basis for 2 months. The schedule is Monday-Thursday (32 hours a week). This is a remote Mon-Wednesday; but they would like the person to come in Thursday. The office is in DC. Candidates must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and be able to show their card.

The Senior Accounting Associate will be responsible for balance sheet accounts reconciliations, accounts payables, expense management, intercompany transactions, investment reconciliation year-end audit schedules, and any other assigned duties.

Duties & Responsibilities:

•Responsible for accounts payable, expense report processing and verifying all data to ensure accurate payment of all invoices on a timely basis
•Responsible for preparing journal entries into the general ledger for both headquarters accounting and country office accounting activities as needed
•Responsible for maintaining schedules such as FSA, HSA, and other financial schedules as assigned
•Responsible for maintaining the month-end closing tracker
•Responsible for preparing and issuing 1099 forms to the consultants and 1096 form to IRS
•Responsible for processing bank accounts and intercompany transactions reconciliations
•Responsible for collecting taxpayer’s identification number such as W9 and W8 and creating a new vendor in Intacct
•Provides training to staff on HQ accounting policies and procedures and tools as needed
•Assists in year-end audit preparation and coordination as needed
•Perform special projects as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in finance/accounting, ideally in accounting
• Minimum of 5-6 years professional accounting experience, preferably in non-profit accounting
• Familiarity with GAAP and non-profit accounting concepts, practices, and procedures
• Knowledge of accounting software preferred; Sage Intacct or Microsoft Dynamics GP (formerly Great Plains)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and word processing required
• Ability to communicate well with staff, clients, and vendors
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment with minimal
• Willingness to learn
• Well organized, efficient, and attentive to detail
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Flexibility and eagerness in assuming additional responsibilities
