We’re a politically engaged house and hope you are too. Values like a free Palestine and mutual aid are important to us.
The house itself is all common space on the 1st floor, with a kitchen prepared for 7 residents. It has 2 sinks, 2 dishwashers, and 2 fridges. There’s also a 10-person table, which is great for shared meals and tabletop games.
The 2nd floor is all bedrooms, plus a washer/dryer closet. 2 of the open rooms are on the 2nd floor.
The 3rd floor has the other 3 bedrooms and its own washer/dryer closet, plus another common space and the balcony. There’s a counter and sink in the common space and we refer to it as the cafe because we keep a coffee maker up there.
Each bedroom is pretty similar; they all have a large 2-door closet and space for a queen bed, dresser, small desk, and a bit more. Room A has 2 full windows, Room B has 1 full window, and Room C has a half window and a partially slanted ceiling due to the roof.
We have a culture of open, kind, and direct communication in the house. We want to be friends, not sources of stress or drama for each other. We take on a shared responsibility for cleaning and decorating the common spaces of the house. Of the 4 of us staying in the house, 2 are men, 2 are women, 2 are white, and 2 are queer.
And if you’re new to the area, the house is located right on the edge of Petworth, Park View, and Columbia Heights. 1.5 blocks away we have Metro, Capital Bikeshare, and the Bus. In a similar radius we have Safeway, CVS, coffee, burgers, donuts, pho, Thai, sushi and more. Then in the immediate neighborhood, we have bars, pizza, Chinese, tacos, multiple rec fields, a library, yoga, and plenty more (like Call Your Mother) if you want to go a few extra blocks.
