condition: excellent
An impressive large format hand colored etching depicting the newly built London Bridge as it appeared in 1833 during the reign of William IV. Measures 10 x13" . This fascinating view from the south side of the Thames looking across towards Sir Christopher Wren’s St. Magnus Church with The Monument just behind sees a grand lady and gentlemen descend the steps to board a waiting lighter moored below, a liveried waterman beckons to them, their goods carried by a young boy. A fine guild barge turns in the water beneath the first arch.

Located in Woodley Park neighborhood of WDC near the zoo. Easy driveway/curbside pickup on Connecticut Ave. Cash only thank you. Please when reaching out specify a time /day when you could see the item. Check out my other listings for other great items.

Titled ‘'London Bridge From the upper landing of the Steps near Tooley Street', it is taken from a series that was titled “ Views Of The Old And New London Bridges with Scientific And Historical Notices Of The Two Bridges”. A very clean and sharp impression printed using the chine-collé technique with beautiful hand coloring.

This wonderful etching is plate nine in a series of twelve that were drawn and etched by the draughtsman, illustrator and engraver Edward William Cooke (1811 - 1880), one of England's most prominent artists at that time.
