For Parts/ "AS IS" vintage drop bar tandem bicycle.
Kuwahara Adventurer T.K. Tandem c. 1983
At the time that this bike was made, it was considered a value tandem: a bike that had good quality components but the frameset was made of relatively cheap materials. Year later, after thousands of miles of use, the frame has developed some cracks at the welds. The frame is still holding together but this is not a sound bicycle.
The frame on a tandem is designed to resist lateral flexing. The strategy in this eras was frames with multiple top tubes, however, the flexing of normal operation has resulted in stress cracks developing near the seat posts in both positions. The frame therefore either needs to be repaired by an enthusiast or this is a collection of parts to be used on a better bike. The wheels in particular are very high quality.
Sizing:
Front Top Tube Length 22.5” (57cm)
Front Standover 32”
Rear standover 30.5”
Wheels are 27” / ETRTO 630 for 27-1/4” tires
Phil Wood 48 spoke wheels w/polished alloy hub shells.
Suntour friction Barcon shifters
6 spd freewheel.
The wheels are true. The bike was ridden for years with the stress crack developing however the cost of welding and machining inside of the seat tube is easily more than the bike is worth. I expect that this bike will be stripped for parts for another vintage tandem. Please state rider height in your reply as a spam filter.
