America's women composers have overcome a history of obstacles to create works of great power, beauty, introspection and joy. This unique concert journey will take us from Amy Beach's Festival Jubilate of 1892 to the music of today's most prolific and innovative women composers, including Jennifer Higdon, Libby Larsen, Joan Szymko, Rosephanye Powell, Elizabeth Alexander and Gwyneth Walker.

California-based composer Jenni Brandon will conduct the DC premiere of her America Belongs to Us in collaboration with the Columbia Flute Choir. We will also be joined by singer/song-writer/social activist Crys Matthews and dancers Davione Gordon, Joshua Chambers and the women of Joy of Motion's Youth Dance Ensemble for an inspirational autumn arts experience.
