PRODUCTION ASSISTANT
Mount Desert Island Ice Cream is an artisanal ice cream shop with locations in Washington DC, Bar Harbor and Portland, ME, and Matsumoto and Azumino, Japan. We make premium ice cream and vegan frozen desserts, focusing on using high quality fresh ingredients and making everything from scratch.
MDIIC strives to create a great atmosphere for customers - the type of environment WE would want to experience as customers. We have the same approach with our team, working to create a place we would want to work at!
We are looking to fill part-time (*with possible opportunity for full-time) Production Assistant positions in our Washington, DC kitchen.
Please note - we are looking specifically for production positions, NOT flavor development or bakers or dessert chefs. Specific kitchen experience is helpful but not required.)
A Production Assistant job includes:
• Making ice cream and sorbet using our batch freezer
• Making various inclusions for our ice creams, including jams, crumbles, cookies, and cakes
• Lifting heavy objects (3-gallon boxes of ice cream, as well as full 5-gallon buckets throughout the day)
• Food preparation (washing, chopping, juicing, etc.)
• Washing dishes and maintaining our food safety policies
The ideal candidate for this position:
• Is highly organized and detail-oriented
• Has basic knife skills and is comfortable using kitchen equipment
• Can maintain a high-energy work atmosphere
• Excels at multi-tasking (at least 3 or 4 different projects simultaneously!)
• Has familiarity with basic cooking measurements (tsp, Tbsp, cup, pint, quart, etc.)
• Is able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (most of your time in the kitchen will be on your feet)
• Is able to reach, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds
• Is cognizant of and motivated to maintain a clean, tidy, and sanitary work area
We provide on-the-job training and are looking for reliable, organized people that can learn quickly and feel comfortable working independently.
