We are a small law firm in Washington, D.C. representing people with serious injuries and we're looking for an outstanding entry level/clerical legal assistant and intake specialist to help us deliver the best legal services to our clients, make a positive difference in their lives, and help our business grow. A willingness to learn and serve others is key.
We’re looking for someone with specific qualities, which are more important than experience. Unless you are absolutely fantastic (100% A+) on the phone and are committed to customer service, please don’t apply.
This is not your average entry-level position. This is a fast-paced work environment and a chance to make a positive difference in people’s lives. The things needed to keep cases on track vary from day to day – it is great experience and you won’t get bored. We have a sense of urgency, efficiency, and pacing in everything we do, and we are a small office so need someone who “gets it” and can work individually and as part of our team.
We don't want anyone who is average or complacent--we are only interested in people looking for solutions (complainers, blamers or whiners need not apply). If you are slow or would rather deal with things tomorrow, don’t apply because you won’t make it past the first round of the application process.
If you are someone who cares about doing things the right way, is absolutely great on the phone and can communicate well with others (in person, on the phone, and by email), and are a self-starter who can handle many projects at a time with a "can do" attitude, you may be a good fit here. You bring the essentials with you to the position, and you will have access to first-class training and systems to help you crush it the way we do things.
Here's some of what you'll do:
This job requires someone to be tech-savvy. You will be tested on Microsoft Office Suite and Computer Literacy.
You will be the First Impression for our office, both on the phone and in the office. It’s imperative that you can follow directions, have a great, comfortable manner on the phone and are able and willing to use our systems and checklists to make sure the paralegals and attorneys are supported. You will be responsible for the basic clerical duties in the office (filing, labels, postage, Fed-Ex/UPS, basic vendor accounts, marketing/sales fulfillment, calendar/appointment management, etc.). If you are able to crush the duties given to you and prove yourself consistent over time, there is opportunity for more growth and challenge.
You will communicate with real people (our clients). This is critical. You will be speaking with our clients that call, setting up phone calls for attorneys and paralegals, and fielding phone call with potential clients.
You will need to be:
Calm, firm and patient – our clients are often hurt, anxious and worried.
Organized – using checklists, to-do lists, scripts.
Multi-tasking. We expect all clerical duties to be done as well as juggling incoming phone calls.
Able to follow systems to the “T”– we track everything.
Able to take initiative and figure out the answer when necessary.
Comfortable with new things and willing to speak up to improve what we do.
Able to enjoy all of this and have fun working here – otherwise, why bother?
Here are the specific instructions on how to apply:
You should check us out first at www.donahoekearney.com to make sure you understand what we do and would be committed to helping our clients. Then, send an email to Brooke with the subject line: Best Entry Level Legal Assistant! Your email should include a letter of interest with specifics that set you apart as the ideal candidate for us and specifically why you'd like to work here based on this ad, plus a resume.
If you don't follow these instructions, we won't consider your application. If you show us you have these qualities, we’ll email you further instructions to continue the process. Good luck!
Job Type: Part-time with potential for full-time. You will be considered officially hired after a 90-day review period with potential to transition to full-time as the business grows.
