Part-Time Legal Assistant & Intake Specialist (DC)

compensation: compensation commensurate with experience
employment type: part-time

We are a small law firm in Washington, D.C. representing people with serious injuries and we're looking for an outstanding legal assistant and intake specialist, to help us deliver the best legal services to our clients, make a positive difference in our clients' lives and help our business grow. Unless you can give absolutely 100% A+ customer service, please don't apply.

This is not your average legal assistant position. We're looking for someone with specific qualities which are more important than experience. We don't want anyone who is average or complacent and we are only interested in people looking for solutions (complainers, blamers or whiners need not apply).

If you are someone who cares about doing things the right way, is absolutely great on the phone and can communicate well with others this job might be for you.

If you are a self-starter who can handle many projects at a time with a "can do" attitude, this job might be for you.

You will have access to first-class training and systems to help you crush it.

You will need to pass our intakes and training systems within your first 30 days.

And because we are growing, once you master the fundamentals of this position there is always room to grow in your position.

We have a sense of urgency, efficiency and pacing in everything we do, and we are a small office so need someone who "gets it" and can work as part of our team. So, if you are slow or would rather deal with things tomorrow, don't apply because you won't make it past the first round of the application process...

This is a fast-paced work environment and a chance to make a positive difference in people's lives. The things needed to keep cases on track vary from day to day - it is great experience and you won't get bored. A willingness to learn and serve others is key.

Here's some of what you'll do:

This job requires someone to be tech savvy. You will be tested on Microsoft Office Suite and Computer Literacy.

You will be in charge of client files, using our systems and checklists to make sure cases are progressing, calendars are updated and deadlines met.

You will file documents in court and with administrative agencies.

You will communicate with real people (our clients). This is critical. You will deliver updates, help explain the process, answer questions and talk to new clients (our cases require a lot of communication by phone and email).

You will work as a Team Player: We're a small office. We play as a team, covering for each other, helping each other, making each other better.

You will be handling the bulk of our new client intakes. You must be empathetic, able to gather information and guide a conversation. Superior customer service skills are essential. You must be able to use client management software.

You will need to be:

Professional, diplomatic, intuitive, and capable of exercising initiative in problem solving along with comprehensive independent judgment. Candidates must have the ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions and priorities. Must possess the ability to handle a workload and maintain a high stress tolerance.

A "people person" Must be able to work independently with a team that knows what it takes to truly HELP those who are calling into our office.

Calm, firm and patient - our clients are often hurt, anxious and worried.

Organized - using checklists, to-do lists, scripts.

Able to follow systems to the "T"- we track everything.

Comfortable with new things and willing to speak up to improve what we do.

Able to enjoy all of this and have fun working here - otherwise, why bother?

Here are the specific instructions on how to apply:

You should check us out first at www.donahoekearney.com to make sure you understand what we do and would be committed to helping our clients. Then, send an email to Brooke with the subject line: Best Job Ever. Your email should include a letter of interest with specifics that set you apart as the ideal candidate for us and specifically why you'd like to work here based on this ad, plus a resume.

If you don't follow these instructions, we won't consider your application. If you show us you have these qualities, we'll email you further instructions to continue the process. Good luck!

This position is part-time with potential to go full-time. Hourly compensation commensurate with experience.
