My name is Mashal. Just a little background information- I graduated with a Master of Science in Chemistry from Georgetown University in 2012. I taught General Chemistry I and II as a TA for three years at Georgetown University and have additionally tutored for 10+ years in General Chemistry, Chem Honors, AP Chem, Geometry, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Pre-Calculus, SAT, Physics, English, Writing, U.S. History, World History, elementary and middle school math and science, and college applications. Through my extensive years of tutoring, I have found that building the confidence of the student is key for them doing well. I like to ensure that my students are comfortable and find the material interesting-for these two reasons allow the best method of understanding key concepts. I am very thorough in my explanation and want my students to understand the concepts and then learn how to apply them by doing several practice problems until they know the material well.
I have taught ALL levels of students, and am respectful of my students' needs. I graduated with highest honors, Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science degree before going to graduate school. I was also awarded the American Institute of Chemists Award at University of North Florida for outstanding chemistry student of the year (2004).
I have excellent relationships with my students and they are very pleased to work with me as I am patient, friendly, have extensive knowledge of content and simplify the concepts so they no longer fear the subject. I have students who have literally gone from an F to an A. All it takes is time and commitment on their part with supplemental help from me.
I have taught a very challenging class of General Chemistry for 20+ students at Georgetown University for three years-with excellent results in my students learning the course content and being at the top of their class. I achieve good results with my students because I understand everyone learns at a different pace, and I am patient, very thorough, and determined that principles are learned and retained via teaching concepts, doing examples together, and allowing students to build confidence by applying those concepts and getting the correct answer repetitively. My students have said that "I have saved them in Chemistry" and I have had students that scored their first 100 on exams due to my help! I have references that will gladly speak to you on behalf of my services. I have taught chemistry to those who have never opened up a chemistry book, and to those who are fourth year chemistry majors!
Rate is $100/hour for all subjects. I currently live in Haymarket, and if tutoring is needed outside of a 10 mile radius, I do ask for a minimum of 2 hours for the session, alongside a $20 gas/travel fee. With that being said, I have tutored in Alexandria, Springfield, DC, Chantilly, etc, so I will be able to come to the student. But because this is Craigslist, and for safety reasons, I would prefer to meet at a public place, such as a library or bookstore for the first session.
If interested, please email me with name, number, location, availability, course and what you wish to achieve with tutoring (i.e. just want an A for the test, OR I want to live, breathe, and sleep chemistry because it's my passion).
