My name is Kian Azimpoor, founder and director of Kian Prep. I have scored in the 99th percentile for SAT, ACT, SSAT, and a host of SAT II/AP exams, while helping countless students master these exams. I tutor in D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and online.
The SAT/ACT is a challenging exam, but the SAT/ACT is also a very learnable exam that can be mastered with discipline, effective strategies, and practice. I have helped hundreds of students significantly improve their SAT/ACT scores, allowing them to get into top tier schools and/or obtain six-figure scholarships.
Having tutored for nearly a decade, I have worked for Varsity Tutors, Kaplan, and Princeton Review. In 2016, I graduated Phi Beta Kappa and as a Plan II Distinguished Graduate (Special Honors) on a full ride from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Plan II Honors. During my time at UT-Austin, I was awarded over $100,000 in merit-based scholarships. Later, I worked as a critical care oncology researcher at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the number one cancer hospital in the country, and as a Legislative Correspondent in the U.S. House of Representatives.
As a tutor and college admissions advisor, 95% of my college bound clients have been accepted to one of their top three choices: Harvard University, Yale University, Stanford University, Georgetown University, Williams College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Johns Hopkins University, Brown University, University of California-Los Angeles, Emory University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Virginia, Duke University, and the University of Texas at Austin.
My teaching philosophy centers on establishing trust and rapport in an open environment. I utilize active learning techniques to inspire an appreciation for scholarship. I find academic mentorship to be the most meaningful part of tutoring.
Beyond standardized tests, I also tutor pre-medical and humanities courses: general chemistry, biology, genetics, biochemistry, physics, philosophy, English, history, psychology, sociology, algebra I/II, pre-calculus, and trigonometry. I work with elementary, middle school, high school, college, and post-graduate students.
Many of my students attend the following schools: the Sidwell Friends School, Georgetown Day School, Potomac School, Field School, Maret School, Holton-Arms, and St. Albans.
