Konnichiwa! I was born and raised in Japan and graduated from California State University in the USA. Iβm a certified Japanese language teacher with over 10 years of experience and more than 5,000 hours of teaching both in the U.S. and Japan.
I specialize in teaching beginners but also offer lessons for intermediate and advanced students. My courses are designed to not only teach the language but also provide insights into Japanβs unique customs and culture.
Iβve worked with students of all agesβfrom K-12 children to college students and professionals. Iβve served as a head teacher at a Japanese language school and as an instructor at various universities. I always tailor my lessons to meet your specific needs and learning style.

I would say that I am a serious and diligent learner of Japanese, and I have been with Hiromi sensei for a little more than a year now. We have been having 2 lessons each week, and 2 hours per lesson (so that makes it about 100 lessons so far). She structures lessons according to my explicit and implicit needs, and is accommodating in scheduling.
She had lived in the U. S. for a number of years previously, and is quite familiar with the American lifestyle and culture, which makes conversations relevant and relatable. She comes to each lesson prepared, energetic, and with a big smile. She lets me make all the mistakes, and then patiently corrects me. I look forward to each lesson with anticipation, fun and joy.

I have been a student of Hiromiβs for over six years. What I enjoy about our lessons is that she makes learning Japanese interesting, and most importantly, fun. I have a busy schedule and she has always gone out of her way to be accommodating. My learning style is more of an open type and Hiromi has no problem focusing her teaching on the specific things I might want to branch off topic and learn about. She has never made me feel uncomfortable if Iβm unable to complete homework and doesnβt give me any if I donβt want it, which is very nice. She spent years surfing and playing volleyball in SoCal so thatβs probably why sheβs so laid back! Hiromi is able to provide well structured lessons and homework tasks to teach Japanese in an intuitive way. Hiromi is a wonderful Japanese teacher who I have been going to for a few years now. Typically, we do a 2-on-1 lesson, with another student at my level. But often we do 1-on-1s, which are just as valuable.
She brings a genuine warmth to all our lessons, and a natural excitement that facilitates learning and fun. She is flexible to our busy work schedules and offers a variety of lesson-types to suit any learner. In the beginning, we focused on speaking and important grammar/vocab points, and over time this has moved on to include complex reading assignments as well. All our work β and homework, should you want it β is stored in an online drive, for easy access.
An important point of learning is making mistakes, and a good teacher will correct these, tell you where you went wrong and why, without making you feel like an idiot. I have never once felt stupid for making an error with Hiromi β and when you learn a new language, you will make a few.
A feat, most high school teachers could learn something from and a credit to Hiromi-sensei!
Now, when I travel to Japan, I go equipped with more skills thanks to Hiromiβs lessons. I look forward to working with her for many more years to come!

I tried for years to study Japanese on my own with lots of different pre-recorded classes and apps but I wasn't making as much progress as I wanted to and didn't want to have to use the genki textbook. I was so lucky to find Hiromi!! She is such an amazing teacher- really fun and judgement free lessons that have made a noticable difference in my language ability!! I've been writing hiragana for 30 years, and I've been writing it terribly! No one actually corrects you"
I love how you explained it - there's so many things I didn't know. Especially about stroke order, gaps, stop points, or hane.
You should offer private lessons for ANYONE who thinks they can write hiragana.
Because WRONG, bet you can't write ki or ka π

Hiromi is a great native Japanese speaking instructor with a friendly and pleasant personality. She was punctual in all the online sessions I had with her.
