Hello! I am a consultant and mental health professional and am looking for an experienced Admin who is organized, computer literate, likes web sites, great with people and has a sense of Humor!. You also need to be naturally very organized and enjoy things running on a schedule. Someone who is rigid is not a good fit. Dealing with people, both long time clients and new people requires the ability to listen and assist getting details done in a smooth way. Patience is important.
The right person would be someone who enjoys learning interesting information. I am from the academic world and use research, scientific findings, computers and facts for the work. I am a psychologist. My assistant who worked with me the longest -17 years, and others who also worked with me for several years, all had a college degree. They were still comfortable with a variety of things from arranging travel arrangements, including overseas travel and dealing with time zones. They could set up meetings of all kinds, get regular clients on the calendar, handle minor weekly billing, work with me on proposals, articles and Powerpoints. I have several websites and my assistant needs to be familiar with posting/changing computer information as well as working with all of the Microsoft office apps.It goes without saying that a command of English is necessary along with the ability to write letters, etc. This job entails a variety of tasks on a regular basis.
As an aside, I have to say that the best assistants where there was a good match between what I am looking for and the work were people who liked working independently and are self starters. Several were raising a family and looking for a role where they have some flexibility. On more than one occasion, there have been sick children taking a nap in my office! The most successful person who worked with me had mommy duties every afternoon. She started out as part time, but ended up adding value and working full-time. She was a topnotch professional and for me, it is all about how well my assistant and I can get work done . Other professions included former teachers, a retired admin work for a busy and large church, as well as several graduate students in history, English and psychology. Personally, I am a very good writer, but I am dyslexic so use spell check and appreciate an admin who is a good speller!
I do have an office on Connecticut Ave between Cleveland Park and Van Ness subway. I see clients there 1 day a week. Other days of the week I work at my fully equipped home office in Friendship Heights and Chevy Chase . I spend most of my time in online meetings and on the phone. I am also writing a book. Occasionally, the person who works for me will come to my home office and help me get a Powerpoint done, organize some computer things , work on a project like the websites, planning, etc. But my assistant can chose to work at the Connecticut Ave office with computer, etc or from home with a laptop, After we get to know each other and are oriented to the work.
If you are interested and would like more information, please forward your resume and a letter as to what you are lookong for in a role. I will respond but please know I will be on vacation this coming week. I will not be able to respond until after Monday, July 27th. If this seems like a good fit for you, I look forward to talking with you.
