During Covid I did something utterly insane….I left my old company and opened my own with a simple 3 year plan.
Well, in 6 months, have pretty much hit the goals I set for somewhere between year 2 and 3.
As a result, I need help. The simplest term for what I need is an Assistant.
There is no point in asking for background in the field I work in. I can teach you what you need to know on that front. The skill sets I DO need:
Ability to COMMUNICATE. Solid and fluent English, both written and spoken. Not looking for Shakespeare. Nor a BS artist. But the ability to speak clearly and professionally is a MUST. Because you will be on the phone a great deal of the time. And dealing with a VERY wide variety of people.
Quick Learner. What I do is NOT Rocket Science. But it will require you to learn about an industry you have no background in, to grasp terms and details. And to manage changing data. Also, the ability to research a topic I need to know about and relay the information to me.
You must be ORGANIZED: My desk is usually a total mess. My handwriting looks like hieroglyphics. That works for ME (most of the time). I need someone who can mutli task and stay organized as regards work to make it easier for me to do business.
Social Media: One of the things I am MOST behind on is maintaining my social media. Your handling it would make it easier, but I would give guidance.
Computer Skills: What job DOESN’T require this these days? Fluency in Excel and Word are a must. Am just starting email campaigns (all functions through Windows 365 via GoDaddy), so any experience with this is a massive bonus. Also, ability to work on basic Data Base maintenance, write invoices, etc.
Detail Oriented: A lot of the information I work with is very specific. And being clear on details is a VERY important.
Trustworthy: Time will tell on this one. But if I feel I can’t trust you, we are going to have a problem. I am sometimes blunt with my language. And I value HONESTY, straight and unvarnished, in those I work with.
Being Multi Lingual would be a help. Especially if you have fluency in Spanish. But this is NOT a requirement.
Bookkeeping experience is a help. If you don’t know how to do it, will help you learn – in this case, is simply a matter of looking at a receipt and entering it in the proper column for what it is, on what date and for how much so I can track expenses.
Work Environment: Currently I work out of my apartment in DC on the East End of Capitol Hill. This MAY change in the future. But I have a work area for a person that is aside from my own space. There MAY be some ability to do SOME of the work remotely. But the majority needs to be near me.
TRAVEL: IF you are the right fit and can learn what you need to, I may ask you to Travel in my place. I do a fair deal of traveling already and would like to lighten the work load if possible.
PAY: $20 per hour. Bonuses on certain situations. Can pay you as a Contractor or Employee.
Hours: SOMEWHAT Flexible, but can guarantee 10 to 20 hours per week. No daily hours required, but tasks must get completed on time. Occasional ability to work part of the weekend is NOT required, but is an option to get the work done.
PLEASE NOTE: I have known MORONS with PhD’s. And Geniuses who never finished High School. I care less about your credentials then your ability to actually perform the work and make MY life easier.
