Trump promised to slash the federal budget and despite Musk and DOGE eviscerating federal agencies, in fiscal year 2025, total government spending was $7.01 trillion and total revenue was $5.23 trillion, resulting in a deficit of $1.78 trillion. This was due to the Department of Defense to which Trump has added $1 trillion dollars in spending. This actually makes sense because with all the enemies Trump is making of our former allies, we’re going to need a strong military to defend ourselves.
