We are seeking someone looking for a short-term lease (Sept-Nov). The dates are somewhat flexible. The basement apartment is a separate unit from the house. However, we would be happy for the person who moves in to share the upstairs common space with us and to be part of the home.
THE BASEMENT
Spacious basement [$1400 + ~$130 for utilities/cleaning], with a private entrance and private access to the backyard. A good amount of light due to several windows / doors on both sides of the unit. Separate thermostat. Full separate kitchen w/ cabinetry, shelves, electric stove, dishwasher, sink, and water filter. Full, private bathroom with shower. There is shared bike storage at the front basement entrance. The bedroom has space for a queen bed, dresser, with a sizable closet. The living room is big with nice nooks for a desk + space for sofas / tv / hosting.
THE HOUSE
Beautiful 2-story house built in 1910 with hardwood floors, 4 bedrooms (including basement), living room with a sectional, / armchairs / TV, library nook with a sofa and built-in shelves, kitchen w/ pretty tiles and gas stove, backyard that is surprisingly spacious for hosting / hanging, and front yard w/ a big rose bush and cute porch for hanging / people watching. We’ve been told our house has good vibes. In house washer and dryer. Street-parking available with permit.
House is a 7 minute walk from Columbia Heights Metro, 5 minutes from Target and Giant.
Utilities are $100-$150 (higher end during winter months for gas) which includes internet, gas, electric, cleaning once a month, pest control as needed, and water. We do regular chores and have a monthly visit from a cleaner (included in utilities) who does a deep clean of the main floor common spaces and bathroom.
We have two cats that can be kept out of the basement if you desire. You are welcome to have pets in the basement.
ACCESSIBILITY
To enter the basement from the street, you have to go up and down a set of stairs. There is a set of stairs to get from the basement to the main living area, as well as a set of stairs to get from the basement to the backyard.
HOUSEMATES

If you decided you wanted to partake, we collectively buy and split groceries (~$250/mo). At this moment in time we do not have regular house meetings, but we can adjust depending on roommates’ needs. We want whoever joins our house to feel part of decision-making and have a say in how we do things.
COVID SAFETY
Right now we do not have strict norms as a group house on how we manage COVID risk. If someone does get COVID they will quarantine and generally avoid being in common spaces while they’re sick.
We have loved living here and are excited to meet you!
