I am a meticulous editor with more than nine years of experience in digital marketing and editing. I was a contract editor for the State Bar of California, and prior to founding an editing company, I was the Senior Assistant Editor of college guidebooks at The Princeton Review, a Copyeditor for the health division of Wolters Kluwer, and a Marketing Manager for both large and small corporations.
I am proficient in a number of styles, including but not limited to:
• American Medical Association (AMA)
• Associated Press (AP)
• Modern Language Association (MLA)
• The Chicago Manual of Style
I will proofread, edit, and format virtually any document: manuscripts, books, novels, articles, research reports, product documentation or manuals, presentation slides and handouts, internal or external newsletters, user guides, consultancy reports, sales proposals, marketing materials (sales brochures, leaflets or posters), annual reports, website copy, reports or briefings, dissertations, theses, essays, etc.
Editorial services and rates can vary depending on the nature of the work, the timeframe of the assignment, and the degree of expertise required. My rates are on the low end of the spectrum outlined by the Editorial Freelancers Association: https://www.the-efa.org/rates/
Copyediting is a light form of editing that applies a professional polish to a manuscript, website, blog or marketing content. The editor reviews your work, fixing any mechanical errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Proofreading — $25-35/hr
When the material is nearly a finished product, meaning it has been edited, laid out, and designed, the proofreader searches for typographical errors. Proofreaders don’t suggest major changes to the text; rather, they look for minor text and formatting errors and confirm the material is ready for publication.
Mechanical Editing — $25-40/hr
Mechanical editing refers to the application of a particular style, such as The Chicago Manual of Style or Associated Press (AP) Style. The editor reviews the content for punctuation, capitalization, spelling, abbreviations, references, and any other style rules.
Substantive or Line Editing — $35-50/hr
In substantive editing, the editor looks at your content line by line and analyzes each sentence. The editor considers word choice and the power & meaning of a sentence. The editor considers syntax and whether a sentence needs to be trimmed or tightened. Substantive Editing involves tightening and clarifying at a chapter, scene, paragraph, and sentence level.
Formatting — $25-35/hr
Professional formatting of virtually any document or marketing material.
Web Design — $30-45/hr
Branding consultation, formatting, layout, and design of small business websites.

“Evan's website and prompt response to my questions helped me decide to hire him to edit my novel. He gave me a sample of one chapter before I committed, which was very helpful. He signed a non-disclosure agreement and gave me a receipt for the payment. We agreed on a timeline and he kept to it, which I appreciated. The editing was detailed and very useful.”
