Excellent condition uncommon Specialized “Live 3” model bicycle that has had minimal use, with Gates belt drive 8 speed Nexus internal gear rear hub with trigger shifters, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, large porteur style front rack rated for 20 kilos / 44 lbs, with wrap-around rail and wood deck, full coverage fenders, belt-guard, twin-leg kickstand, front end spring-centering device, eccentric bottom bracket, etc, etc, in a compact, low standover height frame size. [I’m not sure why Specialized named this model “Live 3”, but haven’t researched the origin of the name. In any case, identifying it from archived photos and specifications has been a simple matter. I had previously thought it was a “Globe 8” because of the 8 speed hub.]
Since seatposts and stems are available in a wide range of heights/lengths, the most significant frame measurement is the 560mm “effective” or “virtual” top tube length. “Effective” or “virtual” top tube length refers to the distance from the center of the top of the headset, measured parallel to the ground (rather than along the slant) to where the tape measure intersects the center of the seat post. This frame would likely fit a considerable range of rider heights or leg lengths. The person it was set up for is 5’2”, but I’m nearly a foot taller and with a longer seat post and stem I could ride it without too much difficulty. That said, as it’s currently set up, it would be best for a short to medium height person.
Everything works. Low mileage bike. Kenda 700c x 28mm tires in VG condition, with minor wear. VG paint as well.
For what it’s worth, the 2010 model sold for $1550.00, which would be 2232.00 in inflation adjusted dollars.
Vintage French saddle not included, but available if interested.
Here is Specialized’s description of the 2012 model: (since there are a few differences between the 2012 description below and this particular bike, (most notably this bike has 32 spoke wheels rather than the 36 mentioned below) it’s probably another model year).
