Run Lola Run (Dvd 1988 German Thriller/Action) Dir. Tom Tykwe
Franka Potente, Moritz Bleibtreu
Utterly brilliant. The idea that small, apparently inconsequential events can produce very consequential outcomes - the butterfly effect - is old hat but this film demonstrates, with it's brief vignettes of how they affect apparent bystanders, the nameless extras in every film, puts a fresh spin on it.
In this visually and conceptually impressive film, two-bit Berlin criminal Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu) delivers some smuggled loot for his boss, Ronnie (Heino Ferch), but accidentally leaves the 100,000 mark payment in a subway car. Given 20 minutes to come up with the money, he calls his girlfriend, Lola (Franka Potente), who sprints through the streets of the city to try to beg the money out of her bank manager father (Herbert Knaup) and get to Manni before he does something desperate.
Essentially, After a botched money delivery, Lola has 20 minutes to come up with 100,000 Deutschmarks.
The energy is just infectious. The tracking shots of Lola running are beautifully executed and the electronic soundtrack is a total bop to listen to while watching them.
