Folks, this is one of nine ads I'm posting to really prune my comics collection, letting go of many things I've really enjoyed but probably won't ever make the time to read once more. This post focuses on complete series, paperback originals, miniseries, and one-shots and special issues from DC Comics. In general, regular-length trade paperbacks are $5 or less; hardcovers and longer TPBs are about one-third of cover price. Except where noted, all books are in great condition; I'll happily take more detailed photos as needed.
COMPLETE SERIES
1. Starman, by James Robinson (two "Compendium" TPBs---2900 pages!), $40.
2. Swamp Thing by Brian K. Vaughan (two TPBs collecting the 20-issue series), $15.
NOTE: This series focuses on Tefe, daughter of the Swamp Thing who was Alec Holland.
3. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, by Nick Spencer (vol. 1 TPB plus vol. 2 issues 1-6 of 6, and the 100-Page Spectacular reprinting stories from the original 1960s Tower Comics series), $14.
4. New Super-Man, by Gene Luen Yang (4 TPBs), $20.
5. The Monkey Prince, by Gene Luen Yang (2 HCs), $15.
6. The Great Ten #s 1-9 (full series), by Tony Bedard, $6.
NOTE: Under-appreciated but really interesting series, using characters and concepts Grant Morrison created for the weekly 52 series, about a super-team controlled by the government of China. (The last set sold on eBay went for $15 + $8.50 shipping and tax.)
TPB ORIGINALS
7. Cairo, by G. Willow Wilson and M.K. Perker (TPB w/ shaded black-and-white art), $5.
NOTES: Book is shorter and wider than usual; upper right corner is bent. I have another book by Wilson below; another of my ads has her full run on Wonder Woman and the first collection from her Poison Ivy series.
8. A Flight of Angels, linked stories by five writers, all sumptuously illustrated by Rebecca Guay, $4.
9. 9-11, vol. 2, a 224-page anthology of short stories and pin-ups produced in response to the 9-11 attacks and as a benefit for four charities for victims and the affected area, $3.
MINISERIES
10. The Dreaming: Waking Hours, written by G. Willow Wilson (TPB, collects 12-issue series), $10.
11 Infinite Frontier, written by Joshua Williamson (HC, collects 7-issue series and Secret Files one-shot), $12.
NOTE: I will throw in a copy of the DC Universe Rebirth one-shot.
12. Who Killed Jimmy Olsen?, by Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber (TPB, collects 12-issue series), $10.
13. Stargirl: The Lost Children, Jay Garrick: The Flash, and Wesley Dodds: The Sandman (3 TPBs), $13.
NOTE: All three books collect six-issue series; the first one also includes the Stargirl: Spring Break one-shot. Judy Garrick, aka The Boom, features in both the Stargirl and Flash books.
14. Dr. Fate: Countdown to Mystery, written by Steve Gerber of Howard the Duck fame (TPB collects the Dr. Fate portions of the 8-issue Countdown to Mystery series), $5.
NOTE: Gerber died before finishing the story, so four of his friends---Gail Simone, Mark Waid, Mark Evanier, Adam Beechen---provided short alternative endings.
15. Final Crisis Aftermath: Escape (TPB collects 6-issue series), $5.
NOTE: Very interesting and "trippy" (to use a dated word); reminiscent of the old "The Prisoner" TV series.
16. Blue and Gold, by Dan Jurgens and Ryan Sook (TPB, collects 8-issue series), $5.
17. Earth-Prime (TPB, collects 6-issue series, 5 of which tie into DC's CW television shows), $4.
NOTE: IMO, the quality of the chapters varies, and the last one tying everything together is stupid. Nonetheless, I can recommend the book if you liked the shows; I particularly loved the chapters based on DC's Legends of Tomorrow and Stargirl.
ONE-SHOTS AND SPECIAL ISSUES
18. Full set of the eight "DC Comics Presents" one-shots in tribute to Julius Schwartz, $15.
NOTE: Each issue has two stories by different creative teams, inspired by the same cover illustration---which is a modern take on a cover Schwartz commissioned for comics he edited in the 1960s and 1970s.
19. Five "Retroactive" one-shots (1980s Batman, 1970s Justice League of America, and 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s Superman), $10.
NOTE: Each issue has a new story, and a reprint from the appropriate decade.
20. Four 80-Page Giants from 2000 (Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, JLA), each with a full-length, stand-alone story, $5.
21. Eight various one-shots and specials, $12
Here's the list: Batman: Hidden Treasures (with art by Bernie Wrightson), Superman #700, Green Lantern and Plastic Man: Weapons of Mass Deception; Young Justice 100-Page Spectacular (reprints the World Without Grownups miniseries), Secret Origins #10 (with four alternative origins for the Phantom Stranger---one by Alan Moore), Supergirl Annual #2, Superman: The Wedding Album (coverless---my wife framed it for me ;-) ), and Brightest Day 100-Page Spectacular #2 (reprints Firestorm and Martian Manhunter stories).
Congrats on making it down to the end of my longest ad---either you read quickly, or you have really good taste, or both! ;-) If you have SUCH good taste that you want to buy everything in the ad, I will lower the price for the 20 TPBs (including the two Compendiums), 3 HCs, and 41 floppies from $228 to $160----an additional discount of 30 percent!
