This is a fantastic pair of Bauhaus style leather arm chairs manufactured by ChairWorks Taiwan Ltd. in the 1970s.
The armchairs feature black top stitched leather on black steel coated tubular metal frames. The arms are slung black leather straps. The leather seats and backs panels are hooked together by steel springs, forming a tension support system similar to the one employed in the famous Le Corbusier LC1 Sling Chair. Both chairs are signed ChairWorks underneath the seats.
The 1970s era chairs are in excellent vintage condition. The chairs are sturdy, surprisingly comfortable, and very cool to look at. The leather shows signs of wear, including finish loss at the edges and small cracks in the finish where the leather bends. The powder coated frame is in great shape with just a few nicks on the back handle and on the legs. All steel springs are original and intact with minor rust. The undersides of the seat panels where the springs are attached had some torn grommet holes, which have since been professionally repaired with new grommets. Please see photos for details about condition.
Each chair is a cube measuring 27.5" in each side. The chair height is 17.5 inches, and the arm height is 23.25 inches.
