Bentonite clay (powder form). 50 lb bag $75 (more than one available).
It can be mixed with soil and used along foundations and retaining walls, or under concrete slabs, for water-proofing. Unlike just filling in with plain dirt which permeable when wet, it expands and seals, and even after prolonged dry weather it will instantly swell and seal against the concrete as soon as it gets wet again.
It can be used for lining ponds, though with this being the powder form it needs to be mixed with the soil before the pond is filled (a different, granular, type is needed if you are trying to seal a pond that is already filled). It can be used to grout/seal around well casings. (And, if you are drilling a deep well in rock, it can be mixed as a slurry and used to float out the rock chips, which is why it is also called "drilling clay" ).
Bentonite expands 10 times or more when it comes into contact with water, but it is a gentle, absorption type swelling that seals against further water penetration, and does not create expansive pressure when it is in contained spaces.
Great for solving wet basement problem ( I can advise you on how to use it most effectively)
