Home & Design, a leading shelter magazine in DC, MD and VA, seeks a seasoned art director. This is a rare opportunity to shape the visual narrative of a publication devoted to exceptional homes and gardens in our region. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 10 years’ experience at a print magazine, meticulous attention to detail and a mastery of typography. They should have the ability to weave our content into a cohesive, elevated print experience—one that feels as thoughtful as the projects we publish.
This is a remote, contract position that will include one day a week in our Rockville, MD, office.
What You’ll Do
• Design compelling layouts that balance architecture, interiors, landscape and editorial storytelling for a bimonthly magazine and biannual sister publication
• Collaborate closely with the editorial team
• Oversee all editorial design and production, color proofing, and print output.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
What You Bring
• 10+ years of print design experience, ideally in shelter, lifestyle or luxury publishing
• A refined design sensibility with strong typography skills
• Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and PhotoShop expertise essential)
• Deep understanding of print production and prepress
• Ability to multi-task and juggle deadlines with grace (and good humor)
• A portfolio that demonstrates restraint, elegance, and editorial intelligence
• Strong production knowledge, including prepress and color correction.
