Membership and Administrative Coordinator (Bethesda)

Bethesda Jewish Congregation, www.bethesdajewish.org, seeks a part-time Membership and Administrative Coordinator. BJC is a warm, inclusive, and diverse community located in suburban Maryland. We have been co-located with the Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church (BHPC) for over 50 years and engage with them and other interfaith partners to make a more just world. This is a great role for someone who seeks part-time (approximately 70% FTE) and flexible but very meaningful work, with the opportunity to operate remotely for a significant part of the week.

The ideal candidate will communicate with and support members, the Rabbi, and staff, and interface with other Jewish, cultural, and administrative-related organizations. Key responsibilities and tasks include:

Accounting
-Interface with BJC treasurer and accountants
-Billing and account receivables
-Track donations, send thank you letters and tax receipts

Office Administration/Membership
-Update membership information in Shul Cloud database
-Answer telephone calls and respond to phone and email questions
-Forward pastoral care and other requests to the Rabbi, Staff or Board as appropriate
-Coordinate Yahrzeit and Mi Shebeirach notices, letters, and mailings with the Chesed Society.
-Attend weekly Building Users Meet and report information to Board
-Prepare reports and documents for Monthly Board Meetings
-Provide general administrative support to Rabbi and staff
-Process mail and mailings
-Outreach to members, and followup with membership committee and with prospective members
-Weekly updates of BJC website

Partner with Program and Worship Coordinator
-Share responsibilities for Shabbat attendance/setup with Coordinator
-Help Coordinator develop and maintain a volunteer corps

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills, particularly:

-Basic competencies in financial management, budgeting and reporting

-Proficient with MS Office and Salesforce or ShulCloud

-Ability to update and manage a website from a menu driven platform

-Ability to manage own time and prioritize projects efficiently

-Warm personal and professional demeanor

-Demonstrated customer service, preferably in a membership or volunteer setting with the ability to handle challenging and sensitive situations.

-Ability to learn and adapt quickly

-Minimum 3 years of office experience

-Availability 1-2x/month for Shabbat/Friday evening services (now on Zoom, and In person when our building reopens); and on major Jewish holidays and celebrations to support activity.
