After 2 years of compatibly cohabiting, my Maine Coon buddy Buster (aka Figaro) and his human mom moved on to their own home. I’m sad. My human mom is sad. So we’re looking for new housemates: 1 each human and feline. (A human without a cat would be ok but she’d have to really like cats.)
No men. Mom likes men ok, just doesn’t want to live with them. Neutered male cats are fine.

OK, Lucy, that’s enough, I’ll take over from here.
So yes, my current housemate moved on, and since things worked out so well between Lucy and the housemate cat, and since I know it can be hard to find a place that will take someone with a cat, I’m making a point of welcoming another Crazy Cat Lady to our home.
We live on a tree-lined street of 1950s ramblers just 4 miles from the medical centers at NIH and Walter Reed, between Forest Glen (1.5 miles) and Wheaton (1 mile) Metro stations. 1.7 miles to beautiful downtown Kensington and just 2 miles to the Beltway entrance at Georgia Ave. Not fancy, but homey, with nearby parks, convenient shopping, and eclectic local restaurants.
We’re looking for a housemate – ONE ONLY – not just a renter.
Someone compatible, congenial, communicative, and LGBTQI-friendly.
MUST be FULLY-VACCINATED against COVID and responsible about exposure.
Cat (one only) must also be fully vaccinated, congenial, neutered, and indoors only.
You’ll have the basement bedroom, the largest one in the house, along with a private bath and a semi-private study area. Plus – lots of privacy!! There's a shared family room, washer and dryer, and storage on the lower level as well, but I'm not down there that much. Lucy does go downstairs and would hang out there with Buster as well as up here with me. My current housemate and I swapped cat care when one or the other of us was out of town.
Here's what you'll get if you come live with us:
* furnished bedroom with good morning light; bring your own bed and a few other things if you wish.
* walk-in cedar closet
* semi-private study or storage area
* High-speed wireless internet
* own bathroom
* shared kitchen with gas stove, plus hour own small fridge & microwave downstairs
* washer and dryer
* free on-street parking right in front of the house
* separate rear entrance if you'd prefer to use it
* back patio perfect for relaxed weekend morning coffee
* gardening space to share with bunnies and squirrels and the occasional deer
Note: photos show bedroom as decorated by 2 previous housemates.
It's not a huge house, so I'm looking for ONE PERSON ONLY. No exceptions.
NON-SMOKERS only.
LGBTQI-friendly.
A car is advised.
Available December 1st, earlier move-in date also possible (as early as a November 18th.)
Let's talk!
$950 rent includes Wifi.
Utilities extra (gas and electric, your share currently $99/month)
One month security deposit required.
Month-to-month at-will rental with minimum one calendar month notice for departure.
I'm an unemployed/retired (take your pick) female feminist baby boomer, somewhat bohemian, occasional musician, home a lot during the day. My circle of friends is highly multi-generational, and some of my best housemates were 20-somethings. I host klezmer (Yiddish) music practice sessions some Tuesday evenings with up to 7 people. My previous housemates have all said they enjoyed the music.
Interested? When you reply, tell me about yourself and mention any experience with shared and/or cooperative housing. And with cats. Why do you think we’d be happy living together? What’s your usual daily schedule? What's your financial situation? Do you cook? I’ll be conducting initial phone interviews with women who sound like they'd be a good fit before inviting the best candidates to tour the house in person. I’m fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but being a high-risk patient I still have to be careful about exposure and ask that you respect that. Due to allergies, no strong scented candles, or scented oil diffusers (the latter are dangerous for cats). Again, compatibility counts.
I've been having some trouble with the craigslist mail relay system not passing on my answers to messages, so if you're comfortable with this please include your email address in your reply. I do respond to all messages.
